Good on him for doing the right thing, but a few thoughts.

  1. Who the fuck walks around with that much cash? I keep a $20 bill (CAD, so only about 14 EUR) in my wallet for emergencies and everything else gets paid by card.
  2. I suspect the police had a few similar questions for anyone brave enough to claim that wallet.
  3. As per the community this is posted in, it's a bummer that he was homeless in the first place but this is a huge windfall for him. Systemic issues aside, I see this as a win for the dude and his family.

Re #3; Yeah, that's the "heart warming human interest story" part of the orphan crushing machine.

Oh, I get it. I definitely didn't mean to imply that this doesn't fit here - just that the situation isn't quite as demoralizing as many posts in this community.

He did a good thing and was handsomely rewarded for it by others. The situation in question wasn't directly related to his financial plight. I'm sure I'm over-complicating it though. I'm just less bummed out by this story than I'm used to on this sub. Sooooo ... yay?

To answer question 1, based on nothing besides this being Amsterdam and the figure of 2000 euros, I wonder if it was for a bike purchase.

Orphan Crushing Machine

A community featuring uplifting and wholesome news stories that overlook deeply ingrained systemic problems.

The rules:

1. Your post must be an unironic presentation of a wholesome story, but one that overlooks systemic failures that made the story possible in the first place. In other words, we want posts that highlight "Yay, the problem is solved!", but ignore "Wait, why was this a problem in the first place?" at the same time.

2. Re-posts will be removed at mod discretion.

3. Sitewide rules apply. Basically, (a) don't be a dick; (b) use the NSFW tag; (c) no spam; (d) don't attack people; and (e) don't abuse the report button.
