A recent report claims that Fitbit is discontinuing its smartwatch lineups, and Google's evasive response only adds fuel to the fire.

It's not just Google though. Realistically, don't go for any device that requires an online component. Just look at the recent news:

  • Snoo
  • Sonos
  • Spotify
  • That sous vide thing

Everything is getting discontinued after a while, leaving you with the burden of disposing of the e-waste. If the device cannot function offline then you are renting it, not owning it.
