Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!
Rules:
- Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.
Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.
Example:
- Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
- Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
- No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
- Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.
That's all the rules!

Thanks for the adivce. But I'd prefer we just stay focused on the article rather than personal attacks. This community is a political news discussion community, not a personal attack community. Thank you!
Nah it's a copypasta community actually
Not sure what that means. The sidebar describes perfectly what this community is. I'd really appreciate it if you could, at least while interacting with me, just keep our conversation to the political content in the article rather than personal attacks. Thanks!
You understand it.
Actually, no I don't. But let's try to focus our interactions on the articles posted. Thanks!
I'm good actually
I think it would a much more practical use for this comment thread. Thank you!
No thanks!
So, just to be clear, are you saying you’d rather not keep this thread free of personal attacks and instead focus on discussing the article?
I'd rather not have others tell me what I'm allowed to talk about. I seem to recall there being a concern about limiting personal expression, no? Let's not limit anyone's respectful expression please! If you take issue with personal expression, please write a letter to Thomas Jefferson to lodge your complaint because I did not draft the United States Constitution. Thanks!
I'm not sure what you mean.
There are plenty of communities on Lemmy where you are free to have your personal expression though. And since your comments would be attached to your username, this isn't a matter of censorship. It's a matter of following community guidelines for this particular community.
If you feel the community should allow for more personal attacks, please contact the mod team with your concerns.
But as of now, this is a political news community, and to engage with me personally, I'd prefer to just talk about the politics of the article instead of personal attacks.
Multiple baseless accusations such as that I'm not human, or that I am not a US citizen are not respectful. Implying that I am pro-Trump, after I have told you several times that you're incorrect, is not respectful and these are examples of personal attacks.
When you get personal, it takes away from the spirit of this community. If you have a problem with any of the news articles that I have posted or if you don't feel they fit the theme of this community, please feel free to contact the mods. Thank you!
I don't think that recommending that you contact the writers of the Constitution is a personal attack. If you think that, please write a letter to Miriam Webster to express your disdain with the English language. I actually did not create the English language, so actually, please express your concerns to Anglo Saxons in the year 500 AD. Thanks!
You’ve made your personal opinion of me quite clear. As I’ve mentioned several times, I believe we should focus on discussing the content of the articles posted from here on out, in order to keep with the spirit of this community. Thank you!
I believe we should allow free expression of thought, otherwise we will need to send harshly worded letters to barbarians from Saxony and Thomas Jefferson. I did not create the Constitution or the English language, so I think we'd be better off sticking with the topic of how your canvassing is not convincing. Thanks for your opinion about the United States Constitution, the English language being different than you understood it, and [directive not found, error code: jag$e(jsk628sgna] though!
I'm not sure what that means. But as I’ve mentioned several times, I believe we should focus on discussing the content of the articles posted from here on out, in order to keep with the spirit of this community. Thank you!
I believe the community is better served calling out fraudulent activity. I don't understand what "discussing the content of the articles" means. Boy, that's confusing! Let's stick with calling out frauds please. Thank you!!!
I'm not sure what "fraudulent activity" you are seeing. But it has nothing to with what I am posting. As I’ve mentioned several times, I believe we should focus on discussing the content of the articles posted from here on out, in order to keep with the spirit of this community. Thank you!
Seeing as I mistakenly am commenting in the c/noFreeExpressionDictatorship community, I will see myself out now. Thanks!!
Take care and I hope you start having a better day.
I've been crying for hours. To think that you don't value my opinion! 😭
It's almost too much to bare.
I think I'll go write a letter to Stalin to lodge my complaint against militant dictatorships! After all, you didn't invent the concept, you're just participating in a community that advances it by rejecting all free expression here in c/itsIllegalWhenYouTalkButNotMe! And that's not illegal for you to do, so it's illegal for me to criticize!!
As I’ve mentioned several times, I believe we should focus on discussing the content of the articles posted from here on out, in order to keep with the spirit of this community. Thank you!
I respect your right to do anything no one has forced you to stop doing. Thanks!!
Thank you!
I think that's a great idea, actually
I genuinely believe the mods do an excellent job managing this community. They definitely have their work cut out for them, and it's commendable that they do it all for free.
