Any time I see pepe the frog ... I think "twat with pimples and zero life masturbating to pics of Elon."

[-] riodoro1@lemmy.world 32 points 4 months ago

Pepe has been around when elon was still posing in a coat in front of a liberty sign.

[-] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

and the swastika is ancient. that doesn't mean people using it in the West aren't usually dickheads.

[-] riodoro1@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

D.. did you just compare pepe to a swastika?

Is everything ok?

[-] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

Seems like an apt comparison to me. The frog has been used by hard right extremist groups almost religiously, I say let it croak.

[-] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

yes, i did. and no, things are not ok. there's way too many outright Nazis and they love this stupid frog

[-] Fedizen@lemmy.world -1 points 4 months ago

Yeah its clearly more similar to the iron cross

[-] ToxicWaste@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

The nazi symbol is always drawn in one way (卐). while the religious symbol can be drawn any direction, i usually see it the other way around (卍). could be that religious users want to distance themselves from shaved morons...

[-] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

most of the people that use it hatefully don't know that and don't care. it's used both ways for hate, makes it really hard to differentiate.

Pepe might as well be Lemmy face now as widespread as it is. I see him used on steam profiles and Facebook friends who have zero connection to conservative anything. They just think he's cute and usable in millions of ways.

He is, admittedly.

Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
