Its a play on words. The lizard is a newt, and it's his. But it's also tiny, which is what the word "minute" means. Pronounced "My noot".

In time, minute (pronounced "min-it") is derived from this word to mean a tiny amount of time. Or 60 seconds. Thats why it has the same spelling.

Language is weird.

I pronounce the time one min-ut, not min-it.
