In a linked article at the bottom, about Dems still hoping to take the house, there's a brain dead quote:

“We swung the pendulum too far to the left,” Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y.

Is THAT what they are thinking? What in the ever living fuck.

Democratic voters to the DNC as the DNC pivots further right:

aight ima go die from sadness

[-] TrippyFocus@lemmy.ml 39 points 2 weeks ago

Lmao yes famous things leftists ask for like:

  1. Stating your difference from Biden would be to have a republican in your cabinet.
  2. Campaigning with Liz Cheney.
  3. Enacting the rights border policies.
  4. Walking back a commitment to ban fracking.
  5. Walking back support for Medicare 4 All
  6. Walking back support for the green new deal.
  7. Supplying and funding the genocide leftists and Arab voters explicitly wanted stopped.

They can’t even blame third party voters this time around because from the current tallies it wouldn’t have made a difference.

They didn’t activate what should be their base enough and instead tried to court neocons and these mythical moderate republicans that would abandon trump in swaths for a righter wing democrat (hint: they will always prefer the actual republican).

If the democratic leadership takes this result as anything but an indictment of their attempt to abandon popular left policies to become the Republicans of 20 years ago they are hopeless. I’m not holding my breath though.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

Nah we're done dude. What voters where told this election was "Its not your party, its our party. We'll do with it what we will."

I can't imagine voting for a Democrat again, should we even get to vote again. Its too risky. They lie about who they are. Its all lip-service. They have no plan. There is no commitment to a broader project.

[-] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Why are you pretending like the democratic party didn't push through the Civil Rights Act, DACA, Marriage Equality, the ADA, Affordable Care, Decriminalization of Marijuana, almost every minimum wage increase, student loan forgiveness, reproductive rights, etc.? If you haven't benefited from policies of the Democratic party, then you must be living a very charmed life indeed.

Leftists blaming the right for people on the left not voting is some backwards hoop-jumping logic.

[-] HuntressHimbo@lemm.ee 5 points 2 weeks ago

It feels like a recurring pattern of getting momentum then giving up before the fight and declaring that the only way forward is to compromise with the GOP. This pervasive self-defeating attitude that people don't want good things constantly undermines any attempt to sell a democratic vision. If you pre-emptively declare that centrism is the only viable path and attack anything that you think threatens your appeal to the center you will only ever be hurting your own position. To govern effectively you need to sell people on your vision, you have to have an idea of what you want the future to look like and then you have to convince people that is the right way. Going in with the only goal being to win, and adopting whatever mishmash of policies sounds popular to get there will never speak to people, and actively attacking the people with ideas and vision for being too "unelectable" is just self sabotage.

They can’t even blame third party voters this time around because from the current tallies it wouldn’t have made a difference.

Wat. Michigan and Wisconsin alone were so narrow that the third-party candidates received multiples of the difference.

That's twenty-five electoral votes right there. That would have flipped the election.

Robert F Kennedy and Chase Oliver voters are peeling off votes from Trump not Harris.

If you look at the count of the RFK/ Oliver/ Libertarian voters they more or less cancel out the Green and socialist candidate/party voters

[-] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

These people are so out of touch. Dear fucking god we deserved this

Edit: I know half a dozen friends in North Carolina who sat out yesterday because of how far right Harris swung to appeal to the fictional moderates. I don't agree with their decision but the idea that dems will win by pulling back is retarded.

[-] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 12 points 2 weeks ago

Exactly! If only Harris had Threatened to DEPORT her Voters and cause BLOODY Financial Hardships she PROBABLY would have Won! And if she had Campaigned on giving her Voters Healthcare and ending Genocide she would have got even LESS Votes!

[-] Stovetop@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

I watched John Stewart's speech at the end of the election coverage and thought he made a good point: there will be a lot of talking heads on TV and the internet who are willing to say with absolute certainty why Trump won and why Harris lost and what this means going forward, but the truth is that no one really knows. They're just saying whatever gets them paid, gets them on TV, gets their book published, or gets them into a political office of their own.

When we have a retrospective of this whole affair in 10 or 20 years, there will be someone among the sea of thousands of opinions who probably got it right, but call it a lucky guess more than genuine insight.

Yeah, believe it or not most middle Americans don’t care about Cardi B’s take on economic policy or that Kamala is a big supporter of drag queen story hour. If democrats stopped worrying about asinine social rhetoric and focused on giving the working class a chance at a future without being buried in medical debt for getting a cold then they would have won in a land slide. Nobody in Jasper Indiana gives a shit about some kids being blown to bits in Gaza when they can’t afford to feed their own kid. Nobody in rural Alabama cares about the sanctity of Ukrainian borders and funding that war when they can’t afford their rent payment.

Oh, Kamala is going to be the first woman and black woman at that for president? Who fucking cares when I’m working two jobs to pay off college debt for a STEM degree I was told would give me a comfortable life.

Most people who voted for Trump aren’t racist Nazis, they are broken people who’ve had shit shoveled in their face by politicians, crony capitalism, the media, and celebrities so when George Clooney and Brie Larson call them idiots and tell them to vote for Harris of course they are going to do the opposite.

You have to be a brain dead moron to lose to the wannabe fascist, small dick energy, piece of shit, geriatric, brain mush, pile of dirt that is trump, but somehow Democrats continue to not meet that low low low bar.

[-] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago

This is poetry. It perfectly explains the thought process.

I live in a rural part of California where Republicans move to get all the benefits of Democrat policies but get to vote Republicans into office.

Where I live, nothing has changed much since 2008. We've had a Starbucks installed for the highway, some restaurants moved locations, and that's it.

It totally makes sense someone in the desert I live in goes "well Obama didn't fix my area. I'll try trump, he tells me what I wanna hear."

And then trump didn't change anything here either. Some crazies got more proud in their crazy, but things were the same until the pandemic. Even then, we still had to work out same dead end jobs but with a mask to pay rent.

I get why people like a shake up, I get why trump can seen appealing to the white people here. Dead end jobs, can barely afford to live in such a place, and Congress and the white hosue doesn't listen.

But to actively listen to him talk about his plans is madness. Only people who hate others can stand it. And the Democrats lost to a man who didn't string the Nazi's 14 words together.

I wanted Harris, and I didn't expect much to change here either. I've lived here for 20 years against my will and consent, due to life events and shit happening. Nothing changes. I wanted change, Harris couldn't do it, but Trump would have in the worst way.

[-] zib@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I get the feeling of disillusionment. I've been feeling that with the democrats for the last decade. But, to your point that most Trump voters are not nazis, they could have simply stayed home and not voted. Plenty of democrat voters did that, so no reason they couldn't have as well. Anyone with two functional brain cells could see that Trump is not going to make a positive impact on much of anything, especially when his message was almost entirely driven by hate for marginalized groups. His first term was proof enough. You don't get to vote for a nazi and not call yourself one. These people are complicit in the hell they've now helped create.

[-] spacecadet@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

The democrats have been such shit lately that if a middle of the road republican would have ran I most likely would have voted for them. The problem is that Republicans are spineless morons who let trump walk all over them. I know a lot of people here will act like only Republicans are the ones in big businesses pocket, but news flash pretty much everyone except Bernie sanders is in big business pocket, and democrats made sure that Bernie got thrown out with the trash.

Guess what democrats, if you run old middle America white dudes who understand the working class you will win by unfathomable margins every election. But I guess keep running upper class women from San Francisco and New York City and see where that keeps getting you.

[-] Fester@lemm.ee 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yep - I was up all night watching results (which was stupid and yes I feel terrible today) and I caught some Morning Joe before I finally went to bed.

I thought he was about to make a good point when he said that Democrats can’t just keep saying “Trump bad, Democrats virtuous,” but then ofc he went on to blame “the sliver of the Democratic Party who call themselves progressives” and that they will need to shift even further to the right next time.

Pundits are going fucking wild with this.
