This is one of the things I love about my Thinkpad. It has a little sliding cover for the camera.

All my airport signs run Arch, BTW.

Right, the thing that caught my eye was running a full desktop OS for a sign board.

Airport advertising sign, looks like they forgot to make the looping video full screen.

Why do you need a Geiger counter? It looks like a cool device, but why is it EDC?

The food culture of Mexico is amazing, and if you're eating at the right places there is usually no option but to speak Spanish! I've had to request "más picante" before, though generally that is at restaurants used to serving gringos. At tianguis or taco guys on the street there's usually no problem getting the spice.

One of my proudest moments as a white dude who likes spicy stuff was when a buddy and I were hanging out with some local guys while on a trip to Mexico. I was just chowing down on some super hot salsa and one of the Mexican guys gets real excited and starts calling me "the blond Mexican". I'm sure my wife is tired of that story, but I will continue to tell it to her for the rest of my days.

Lake disappointment (contains no water)

Well, that would be very disappointing if your lake had no water. So I think they nailed that one.

Very accurate. The other day my partner walks in.

her - What are you doing?

me - reading about how to prepare acorns for cooking

her - huh, ok *walks away *

I think it went something like : See tree > acorns! > can you eat acorns? > look up acorns > spend 30 minutes reading about preparing and cooking acorns > Forget original thing I was going to do

The answer is yes they can be eaten but you have to soak them to remove the tannins. Then grind into a flour. Use for various recipes.

When I was in third grade I had an argument with my teacher who told me that insects were not animals. I was really into nature documentaries and books at the time and I knew that insects were in the animal kingdom. I remember going home and being really mad about it. That really soured me on school for the rest of my life. I'm still bitter about it!

The youtube version is less insidious than the Flash version which would loop infinitely.

Today I learned that badger badger badger is 22 years old. This has been stuck in my head for over two decades!

Backup recommendations (discuss.online)

Looking for recommendations for backing up laptops to my Unraid NAS. I'm running Immich for photos, and want something for incremental backup of the laptops (Win 11 and Linux). What do you guys like?
