A project space in East London is preparing a series of events and an exhibition of artistic works, films, texts, and other artefacts broadly relating to the aesthetics of conspiracy and conspiracy theory.

We are interested in hearing from artists whose practices are concerned with conspiracy and conspiracy theory and refer directly to particular current or historical conspiracies, as well as works which consider conspiracy theories as affective structures for knowing. How might the “truth of art” address “post-truth” public domains? The project aims to understand and share with audiences the aesthetic forms of conspiracy manifest in contemporary art practices, as well as the failure of mainstream arts and media institutions to address conspiracy theorising.

We are agnostic about the content and attitude of any conspiracy theorising artists may pursue, historic, recent, or ongoing. Covid-truthers are welcome to respond to the call alongside those whose work debunks anitvax conspiracy theories. We are interested in political, social, scientific, psychological, and personal conspiracies. The intended outcome of this call is a presentation of works in the form of an exhibition and an event series unfolding between October 2024 and January 2025 in London. The location and further details will be shared with applicants. There is no submission fee. The project cannot offer honoraria or production budgets.

Submission:

Works in all media are welcome.

We are also happy to hear about work in progress.

Alex is a street thief and also…the heir to the throne? What will the squad do to try to get her a crown?

Vigga - A Swedish werewolf and she’s messyyyyyyy. Will she be your favorite character in the squad?

Baptiste is the type of person who, no matter the situation, is like “Oh, I did this once…” and then comes out with the wildest story. We want to be friends.

Sunny is an elf and elves are hated in this version of the world—they might eat humans? And want to take over the world? Idk sounds understandable to us.

Balthazar wants to be known as a magician, not a wizard, not a sorcerer, etc. So you’d BETTER respect him.

Brother Diaz is a monk. Maybe not the most faithful, but he’s got the spirit.

Jakob of Thorn is an immortal warrior & sort-of leader. Very loyal, very dutiful, very haunted. We’re intrigued.

I received an email, apparently about a month ago. The other day I noticed it in my Spam folder, and responded to it. It didn’t trigger any alarm bells at first, partly because it was so well targeted, the scammer asked for the exact services that I am literally preparing my portfolio to formally offer at this moment. These scams aren’t usually quite so Nail on the Head. However I should have noticed the little typos, and also questioned the fact that I had been contacted nearly a month earlier, but after responding, he proposed a job with a deadline at the end of this month. What exactly would his plan be if I hadn’t responded, because a month is already pushing it.

When the pictures of his “daughter and her dog” were about 30x30 pixels, I did a reverse image search just hoping to find a blog or something, and instead I found a lot more of his daughter’s photos with her dog, on various stock photo websites. Huh. And then Mr. Double First Name asked if a Cashier’s Check would be alright. I’m fully aware Cashier’s Check scams have been around about as long as Cashier’s Checks have been around, so I just started toying with him (after remembering 3 minutes later). He will never get one digit of my information.

I am posting the email exchange so people can be aware, and possibly get some suggestions on how best to fuck, or fuck with this asshole.

I figure as long as I string him along, that may be one less desperate kid or Grandma he scams. Thank you for attending my TED Talk. Emails are below. And if anyone also has a better community to post this to, I will.

My apologies if this post goes against the rules (Mods, please delete if so), but can anyone recommend to me a good free digital art software I can download? So far someone has mentioned Krita, but I was wondering what people here found to be the best? I am familiar with Illustrator, so I have an understanding of how vector graphics editor and design software works, I've just been out of the art game for ages, so I have no idea what's out there.

Thank you!

Self explanatory (lemmy.world)

Trying to get in the habit of ironing out quicker drawings. Could be better but I'm happy with it

Hello again! It's been a while since I last posted but I just finished this piece. This is also the first drawing I've done since switching to Linux (Pop_OS) and I'm pleasantly surprised that there wasn't much of a learning curve. I love that all I had to do was just plug my tablet in, not to mention that I could easily download Pixelorama from the Pop Store.

Since my canvas for this piece was a lot bigger than the others (500 x 410 I think) I upped the brush size a bit. Idk if it even still 'counts' as pixel art anymore tbh.

Giorno Giovanna is one of my favorite Joestars along with Jotaro and Joseph. Drawing him was very fun.

Hi, I like reading some detailed write-ups on other peoples posts, so from now on I’ve decided to start doing it myself for some of the original content I post on lemmy, maybe as a form of personal art-diary.

I am currently on a quest to consciously develop a visual style for myself, and practice more digital drawing / painting. I have an issue where a lot of the art I produce does not look like it was made by the same person, (not really that noticeable in drawings I’ve posted here before, but it’s an issue, I swear) And while being versatile can have many advantages, I dislike feeling like sometimes I have no agency over my hand. When doing personal work I default to just doing whatever, and then try to fix stuff to make it work…honestly it’s bad praxis consequence of many years of bad habits, I’m tired of working that way, I need a method.

My goal is to make things that are deliberate, recognizable and cleaner. I see it all the time with other folks here an irl that have a very defined style/aesthetic, like… does anyone else struggle with this? It appears to come natural to most! Damn, we’ll see how this effort turns out.

Onto the subject of todays studies: Last week I watched the “K pop demon hunters” movie, it has some amazing animation work, excellent choreography and some cool songs. the story is generic but the climax of the film is mas-ter-ful… Enough to pique my interest as a non K pop consumer, and I decided to check out the real stuff. Anyway I ended up as per the fans recommendation on the music video for the song “obsession”, which is so over the top in every way hahaha.. Instantly this gentleman caught my eye, the way he moves, so energetic! Holy shit, you can see the other guys doing their best to catch up on the live performances of the song, so I just had to draw him. Still unsure if k pop is for me, though, but I love a good dancer.

When studying gesture in the comfort of my home my preference is to work with video rather than still images, so I can select the best action moments and carefully examine the motion. I did some 2 or 3 min gestures, and then I rendered the pose I liked best. I finished the exercise drawing a pose from imagination, and you can instantly see that the result it’s not as good. working without direct reference makes my drawings stiff, since I haven’t practiced figure drawing form imagination in a loooong while, so there’s another thing I need to work on.

Enough for today, if you managed to get this far into my ramblings.. thank you, I hope it was of some value, and have a nice one, cheers!

(P.S. if you notice any grammar o spelling mistakes please point them out, I’m trying to improve)

Danas (丹娜絲) is a typhoon that formed to the east of Hong Kong and is moving northwards. She pretty much pulled away all the clouds so it's very sunny (and hot) here.

Kirbubu by FishFins (lemmy.world)

Got inspired by @wedgyblue on Bluesky to make a Kirbubu haha (Kirby -> Labubu). Decided to play a bit with the line thickness and colours, and idk about the lines, but I think it turned out cute! Now, whose Labubu did Kirby eat...
