Hello,

Could you please lock down !lemmyinstances@lemmy.world ?

Also, it seems like the creator has a lot of communities https://lemmy.world/u/comcreator

None of them have had any post since at least 4 months.

I don't know the specifics behind why the communities were (re-)removed but the reasons given in the modlog seem vague enough to apply to anyone linking to Google or YouTube as they reference or indirectly link to piracy:

Removed Community CrackWatch@lemmy.dbzer0.com
reason: facilitating piracy, referencing websites used for the distribution of copyright infringing material in images

Removed Community Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com
reason: facilitating piracy, indirectly linking to websites used for the distribution of copyright infringing material

From the initial removal announcement post:

The discussions that have happened in various threads on Lemmy make it very clear that removing the communites before we announced our intent to remove them is not the level of transparency the community expects, and that as stewards of this community we need to be extremely transparent before we do this again in the future as well as make sure that we get feedback around what the planned changes are, because lemmy.world is yours as much as it is ours.

EDITED multiple times due to confusion over origins of the ban.

Here's an example. I'll escape the markdown so you see the raw text:

![](https://rimh2.domainstatic.com.au/M3S7ooR3ugIz1AMW8WhMJ1JBivc=/fit-in/1920x1080/filters:format(jpeg):quality(80):no_upscale()/2018585659_8_1_230614_022120-w1920-h1280)

The URL contains unescaped parentheses which are illegal in a markdown link because the link itself must be wrapped in parentheses.

The result in my comments showing no pictures and users only seeing this nonsensical text:

:quality(80):no_upscale()/2018585659_8_1_230614_022120-w1920-h1280

If I try to escape the parentheses, I get this:

Oh, hey, it's the picture!

Whatever admin or bot is editing people's comments when moving pictures to some other host needs to escape special characters in the URLs.

I recently created this post and put a .gif link in the URL field https://lemmy.world/post/12028828. I noticed that lemmy now uploads an image to it's server and puts that as the post image.

The problem is that the image it uploads is a static .webm file, it's not animated like the gif. How can I post an animated gif? Is not possible anymore??

For some reason I've been added as a mod of conan@lemmy.world, which I actually blocked a while ago. I can't seem to self remove myself, maybe a lemmy bug from me being on a different instance.

Can a LW admin please remove me from that community?

Hey guys, I’m very new to lemmy, so far my experience has been great but after I made a NSFW post this morning in a NSFW community the post was promptly taken down, my SFW post had its image removed and all but two comments I’ve ever made are gone too. My avatar (SFW) and banner (SFW) were also removed. I haven’t received any comment on this and this is the only avenue I could find to seek help. I’m guessing I may have broken a probationary period that comes with a new account or maybe I was flagged as a bot? Any insight would be appreciated!

Can you even do that as a regular user here or is it an admin instance only thing? Any guides or links for these sorts of things? Couldn't find much about this when looking about so i'd appreciate some help here.

Can't block a user (lemmy.world)

Not sure if anyone can help, but there's a user I've tried to block I don't know how many times now, but I still see their comments and they reply to one of mine about once a week. Not just a single reply, they tend to reply to multiple comments each time they do it if I don't respond.

Which is really annoying because unusually don't pay attention to usernames.

Obviously the first thing I tried was unblocking and blocking again, but it never sticks

Not sure if it's related, but whether I have them as blocked or not, their profile always show 0 comments/posts.

Also they're from kbin if that matters.

Is this just a glitch? Any known ways to actually block that account?

Edit: Solved!

Edit2: Partially solved. Issue resolved on this instance, but the other instance doesn't have a "mark as read" button.

I have a "1 message unread" icon that permanently displays. When I attempt to check my message, the unread messages field appears blank, as if I have read all my messages, but at the top of the page the bell icon still shows 1 unread. New messages increment from one, rather than zero, too. On another instance I just got to 2 permanent phantom unread messages. How do I make this go away?

Also, turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute. Hoping to resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly battleships, the greedy Trade Federation has stopped all shipping to the small planet of Naboo. While the congress of the Republic endlessly debates this alarming chain of events, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict...

Pic unrelated.

If I use the report feature under a post, does that report go to the lemmy admins or only to the community mod? I want to report an entire community for violating the TOS. How do I accomplish that?

The community in question is a new German neonazi music community created a few hours ago and quickly posting a lot of racist material:

Up until yesterday, this problem didn't exist but today when I was connected to a VPN, I couldn't post either a text or image post. I got this error: SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data

After I disconnected from my VPN, the error went away. What gives?

Hi, I run a couple of old NSFW kbin communities that i'm trying to revive, but the posts aren't federating with lemmy.world, despite showing up as communities

Anyone know any possible reasons for that?

Recently I engaged in a bit of what I thought was a friendly meme exchange... But now that user has started following me into other unrelated subs and started targeted harassment.

Thanks.

Read the support thread stickied and am opening a thread in this community so we can add new moderators to /c/cincinnati. See this thread about the discussion- https://lemmy.world/post/11405866?scrollToComments=true

I've tried getting in touch with the primary/sole mod neonfire but their last post was 6 months ago and they never responded to my message (about 2 months back?)

Basically want to make sure it is 1) modded at all and 2) has a couple to avoid such a scenario in the future.

The volunteers to mod are

The photon UI under photon.lemmy.world does not work for me in Firefox 122 under Linux, showing nothing but blank page when I open it. It works in Chromium and in Firefox on Android.

When I open the developer console, I get the following error message:

Uncaught (in promise) TypeError: e.moderation is undefined

I found one I'd like to use with no posts at all, and the one mod hasn't had any Lemmy activity in 7 months or so. I PM'd him, but I'd be surprised if that message reaches him.
