Life Without Goals (lemmy.world)

If you search on a search engine for "no goals" or "life without goals" you get some sites that emphasize the importance of setting and achieving goals, but there are some other voices who say that setting goals is often an issue for them, so they try to live without goals.

Some of the problems they indicate are that goals often end up being achieved differently or on a different schedule, so it seems pointless to set goals, or they can get things done without making it in to a "goal".

I was curious if you've seen this philosophy and experimented with it: what are your opinions on "living without goals"?

If the word "goal" gets in the way of doing the stuff you care about, then carry on doing stuff you care about without using the word "goal".

I'm doing that right now at the moment and I have to say it is pretty unfulfilling. Quit my job a few months ago with enough savings and resources to not work for a while. Resume is strong enough to not worry about a new job at all. The first few months were quite nice lounging about doing whatever I wanted but it's getting old and I find myself craving structure and a schedule. I've already done a ton of travel and indulged in a bunch of hobbies, achieving pretty high levels in some fairly technical ones. Probably going back to work soon enough just to get something going on.
