Modlog and reports are top of my list.

Reports are the big one. Ideally, with inline context, and the ability to remove the content in question from the report queue itself, rather than having to navigate to the page (though that should also be an option)

Also, if there was a way of highlighting reported comments inline when viewing them (this isn't an out of the box lemmy feature though, so I'm not sure how feasible it is).

Also, it would be nice if you could put a bit of text in the reporting screen encouraging people to provide context/explanation of why the post is being reported. So often, people don't include any/enough information

For reports would you like to see this as a notification or something you have to manually check?

[-] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

In an ideal world, the latter, with an option for users enable the former if they want it

[-] canthidium@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I think also if we're talking ideal world, there would be a "mod center" tab or something that has the log, reports, and tools for all the communities you mod, as well as maybe tabs within the center for each community specifically. With lists of all the other mods, and maybe communication tools too. Could be a lot, but just throwing ideas out there.

[-] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago

How would that work for instance admins? Most of the stuff I moderate is as an instance admin, for communities I don't moderate.

[-] canthidium@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Hmm, maybe a center for admins as well? Not sure what all you would need as an admin. I figure more pressing for stuff for mods since there are a ton more mods than admins, but definitely would be nice to have specifics for admins as well.

[-] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago

Now that I think about it, I'd like for reports to still show for me as an admin until I've marked them as read, even if they've been actioned by a moderator already.

As it stands, if a mod actions a report that warrants an instance ban, they can only do a community ban and I never see the report to action it at the instance level

notification pls

[-] cabbagee@sopuli.xyz 49 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

To be honest, I'm really not sure what mod powers I even have on Lemmy. The things that stick out to me are:

  • Edit sub 'about' page

  • Lock threads

  • Ban users, also view banned users and un-ban

Thank you for making Sync + Lemmy and thank you for working so hard to make it user/mod friendly!

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 34 points 1 year ago

You can already lock threads + ban users.

Viewing currently banned would be a great addition along with editing the about page. Cheers!

[-] NinjaFox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 year ago

Adding in here because this is what prompted the idea, the ability to see history of similar offences. For example a post be user X is reported for spam, in the report it would show the report for spam, and also show that they have been reported 2 times for spam in the past. Would help a lot on finding repeat offenders, though I'd definitely a "nice to have" and not a feature to dedicate much time to for the initial mod tools release

[-] canthidium@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yes, I think something where we can see user history of mod actions would be nice. Maybe after a certain number of actions it could hightlight them in some way so we can keep an eye out. I dunno, maybe that's too "big brother" though.

[-] cabbagee@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That's awesome! Would you mind walking me through locking/banning? I thought I explored all the options but this is my first time being a mod and using Sync so it's been a ton of information.

Edit: Is there a FAQ or documentation I can read? Sorry for all the noob questions.

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

There's no FAQ at the moment.

If you're a mod of a community a little shield will show for posts and comments:

And you can ban from there:

[-] cabbagee@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

That's beautiful. Thank you for the great explanation!

[-] Shyfer@ttrpg.network 1 points 1 year ago

So ya, maybe a Mod FAQ would be helpful for new mods who don't know all the features like that person you just talked to as well.

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 33 points 1 year ago

I mod a sub that uses daily threads for organization. Right now I have an unstable solution for creating these posts on a schedule. Once every week or two it requires manual intervention.

Being able to schedule posts from Sync would be so much easier, but admittedly I'm probably the only one who'd make use of it.

No, this sounds like a great idea and something I'd like to see as well.

[-] canthidium@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

+1, I don't have a lot of posts I need to schedule, but I do weekly threads and it would be nice to get them set up in advance if I know I've got something going on at the normal time.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

It would be great for populating smaller communities without just spamming them in bursts at the same time each day.

[-] TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social 3 points 1 year ago

To piggy back off this, a notification when you have a new user if you have an open registration instance would also be cool (although maybe make it a off by default for instances of larger size that don't care and see many new users a day).

[-] CosmicSploogeDrizzle@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

I would like to be notified if another mod has already addressed a report. As it stands now, we each get a report notification on web, but if they address it before I even check to see it, then the notification disappears. I think having modlog notifications could solve this as another way.

Also, I would like to be notified of all removed content. A user can post rule breaking content and then remove it themselves before a report can be created or a mod can see it.

[-] Terevos@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago

This. Really it's a problem trying to mod on lemmy because of combining instance admin and mod logs into one. But a feature like this would help.

[-] BembelSommelier@feddit.de 17 points 1 year ago

I'm currently using Liftoff, the one thing that would make me switch to a different client rn would be mod tools (Queue, Remove, Approve). Last time I checked, there was no android client that provided any mod tools.

[-] candyman337@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 year ago

Long term thing that would be nice, reddit style mod log, like a per sub or all modded subs choice.

Lemmy desktop is in dire need of that too tbh.

[-] rustyredox@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

reddit style mod log, like a per sub

Checking the community sidebar, it does link to modlogs per community. E.g here is the modlog for this same continuity here:

or all modded subs choice.

Could you expand on this?

[-] candyman337@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Ah I see, neat. And as for the second thing, I mean the ability to view the mod logs from all my communities at once in one big stream, but only my modded communities, not ALL communities.

[-] rustyredox@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

but only my modded communities, not ALL communities.

Ah, I see. That would be a cool view. I suppose any client could splice together that view by aggregating the logs for each separate moded community from the user's profile, but this would be nice to support natively upstream via view filters or SQL APIs.

[-] Nath@aussie.zone 11 points 1 year ago

Other than reports, the big one for us is new user requests.

[-] AceSLive@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Not a mod, but discuss.online doesn't work for me anymore

They have a post up explaining why - apparently the app needs modifying or updating to make it work?

https://discuss.online/post/1294119

I feel the lemmy changes may affect more users/servers than just me

Cheers!

[-] TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social 3 points 1 year ago

Interesting to know it's a time stamp breaking app clients. Should have figured that since it shows a java error about time when trying to view my profile, rest of the site is 502.

[-] MorganCS@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Thanks for posting this. I was going to do the same.

[-] adeptnerd@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

YOU ARE THE GOAT, LJ!!! This will be so helpful for not just sync users, but for the whole lemmy community in general!!

[-] scottywh@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The ability to delete a community that I created would be handy.

[-] Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg 2 points 11 months ago

One thing I think would be helpful is a blurring of any and all images by default.

Basically if someone posts something vulgar (like the dude's butt covered in crap spliced onto a photo of a decapitated african child) I'd like to see that lightly blurred so I can say "okay yeah, that's an obvious ban" without actually having to see the full resolution image.

[-] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Well, last I checked there was an issue with reports not going to remote mods. Not sure if the issue still exists, or if this is something that needs to be solved on server side.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

Am I able to view reports in app?

[-] BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I really enjoy the hide read posts option, but it also hides posts in a community I moderate. I would like an option to create an exclusion list of communities from hide read posts, or something in that area that makes it so that the posts in the communities I moderate aren't hidden. Thank you in advance!

edit: nevermind. I figured out that I can untick the experimental option to keep hidden posts hidden on refresh, then go to my community and refresh ๐Ÿ™‚
