My Steam profile, including the inventory with some Gift Games, is public.

I get a few friend requests now and then from profiles that have that exact text (or very similar) as their profile info:

Hey, it's my alt account and I added you since saw you got some steam gifts I am interested in, I can offer you some games or other value items such as tf2 keys, so if you can add me to discuss, I would appreciate it, thanks, I am ready to go first, and can add you from my main account if we trade

Sometimes even with

I avoid posting comments because of the risk of getting flagged by the system as a scammer.

So why do these people/bots want the gift games? Are they trying to scam me, are they trying to scam others with the games? Or do they want to optain the games so they can sell them on their own 3rd party site for a profit?

Has anyone gone through with such a "trade", I'm tempted to try it with a cheap game that I don't need, just to find out how the scam works...

Edit: All gifts except for one are still available in the Steam store. The only one that is not, is a DLC, a song for Rocksmith. I doubt that this is the only reason, especially since most request have the same copypasta in the profile info.

Are there any recommended best practices?

I'm doing a fresh setup on a new system and want to use this opportunity to organise things better. Previously it was quite a mess ๐Ÿ˜…

Some loose thoughts:

  • I don't really want to use the brand, so I could replace devices
  • Not all devices have a fixed place (e.g. the phone), so using the room in the name might not be a nice solution, or I could use "portable" instead for those

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

Piped link

Not really a meme, but I think it might also be interesting for others in this community. Mods feel free to remove if that's not ok.

Definitely also requires the dedication. I'd bet he was not the first who has had that idea, but he was the first to do, and keep doing it.

Is this one of those American things, or am I just ignorant?

While many will be understandably angry or disappointed in our lack of backbone or perceived selfishness

I'm angry and disappointed, but it is not because awesome people stop dedicating their free time to provide a free product, it's because some money hungry corporation decided to bully less powerful individuals who didn't even do anything wrong.

And it's not the first time that this company did fucked up stuff...

The movie is called Behind the Curve, and imo is a great move.

It doesn't try to ridicule the people in it. Instead it tries to make a point that if a group like the flat earth society is being made fun of rather than engaged in discussions, then the gap just gets larger and the problem worse. (If everyone else makes fun of you, you avoid them and stay in the community that supports you.)

As far as I can tell, Mark Sargent is still believing in those theories and continues doing his part in it. This doesn't surprise me, he's quite prominent in that community and I guess if he stopped, he'd lose quite a lot of his personal achievements, friends, hobbies, etc.

I don't know about the others who were in the movie, it would be interesting to know. Especially about those who were directly doing the experiments, yeah.
