That isn't just an unpopular opinion, but a very interesting one. Bravo.

Eugenics is a system of controlling reproduction. Many eugenesists may have believed that being a member of a certain race or having certain congenital diseases made one inferior (and thus unworthy of the right to reproduce), but the basic principle some people should reproduce and some people shouldn't.

Like why do you think people are against eugenics? Because they're afraid we might accidentally bring an end to genetic diseases? That there might be too many blonde people? That they care deeply about people who don't exist yet's rights to be some particular way?

So yeah, when you propose a rule controlling reproduction...

If you want to have a system which determines which people will or won't make terrible families, only permitting the former to reproduce, you want a system of social control. If children were delivered randomly by storks it would be something else. Aviation regulations? Avian regulations? Something like that I guess.

Not all social control is bad. Society and its institutions often limit what people can do. But of late we've mostly determined that restricting reproduction should be used sparingly, not defaultly, and I tend to agree.

I mean I guess not every aspect of eugenics was bad per se, but I'm not so sure about this level of social control.

This is part of the reason why casual accusations of pedophilia have always disturbed me. Because it can lead even people who in most other circumstances would be considered pro-justice and pro-human rights into mini-Mengeles.

And I've seen people just throw out the accusation without even prompt or justification, just because they hate somebody (maybe for other good reasons) and want to see if it sticks. It's fucked up.

Then there's other cases like that one where that 18-year-old got jumped for being baited into going on a date with another 18-year-old, while under the impression that she was... at least 18. A couple of people posted about that already.

Gay people often have straight sex when they are unsure about their sexuality. As society becomes less homophobic I'd expect more straight guys to experiment with other guys.

Because they're also rich. Laws are for the poors.

I feel like maybe research on medical implants like this should be done by the state.

It is honestly impressive that with (presumably) only hard work, an education, a lifetime of business experience, and the kindness of strangers, he was able to work his way up to 6.4% of his goal.

A regular Ozymandias, that one.

Keycaps (mander.xyz)

Hey folks. I was wanting to get a new set of keycaps for my work computer's keyboard, but I'm having a little trouble finding a set that seems like a good fit. I'm fishing for suggestions here.

I'm looking for a set with XDA profile and a darker color scheme (the base is black). Most XDA profile caps I've seen on AliExpress seem to be on the lighter side, and most darker caps aren't XDA profile.

And ideas?

What do you mean it's only IPAs here?

Why there's also Double IPAs, triple IPAs, quad IPAs, Imperial IPAs, every kind of fruit-infused IPAs, hazy IPAs, seasonal IPAs, limited edition IPAs, New England style IPA, West Coast Style IPAs, wheat IPAs, rye IPAs, oat IPAs, Session IPAs, red IPAs, and non-alcoholic IPAs.

And if none of that appeals to you we also have a limited edition seasonal dry-hopped pils that according to the menu tastes like an IPA.

If it's a luxury, isn't it almost by definition "something you can live without?"
