which did you end up getting?

[-] twikz@sopuli.xyz 1 points 19 hours ago

I mean, could get GrapheneOS, it can sandbox Google Play Store. Would need a Pixel phone for that tho..

[-] twikz@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago

My pixel 7 pro had the same, I thought it was because of the optical camera stabilisation

Think what he means is that with a fairphone you don't have to care about how you treat your battery, because you can replace it within 5 minutes for around 40 bucks

I used to switch out my device when it started charging weird or issues with the battery, I had S21 which the charging port stopped working, I bought a new device because of it.

oh wow, why not a 6?

[-] twikz@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago

My prefered is Youtubed Revanced

[-] twikz@sopuli.xyz 7 points 3 days ago

Agreed, grapheneOS seem to care more about security than privacy perhaps

[-] twikz@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 days ago

Think they said it's because of keeping the cost down, I never do anything except charging with USB C cables on my phone anyway

Time to move to EU๐Ÿ˜

[-] twikz@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 days ago

Thats sadly a US problem, I live in the EU and can buy it for maybe 680USD. If the price is the biggest problem for you then that's great news about the phone

It seems easy enough to install /e/os afterward. Thinking about buying the phone in store

Been looking at the Fairphone 6 and damn, support until 2033? That's actually insane.

The whole replaceable parts thing is pretty sick too. Battery goes bad? Just swap it instead of dropping $800 on a new phone or getting the battery replaced for $100

Probably gonna throw /e/OS on it too because why not.

What's everyone else using? Anyone actually have experience with Fairphone or am I just getting hyped over nothing?

I just made the switch to Lemmy and I'm curious what everyone's using to browse it. Looking for recommendations for both mobile and desktop.

Mobile: Been testing a few apps.

  • Voyager's been solid so far - clean interface and works well. Only downside is no push notifications.
  • Also tried Boost but it has some display issues - embedded icons don't show up right and GIFs in comments are way too small.

Desktop: Still figuring out what to use here. What do you all prefer?

Any recommendations would be helpful. Thanks.

Making the jump from Samsung to iPhone soon, mainly for privacy reasons. Want to cut Google out as much as possible while I'm at it.

What I'm planning so far:

  • Mailbox.org instead of Gmail
  • DuckDuckGo for search, would prefer something even better
  • Safari with all the privacy stuff turned on

Where I'm stuck:

  • What about YouTube? Just use the web version?

  • Google Drive alternatives that actually work well?

  • Best way to store photos that aren't big greedy corps?

Questions:

  • Any must-have privacy apps once I get the iPhone?

  • Settings I should change immediately out of the box?

  • Services I'm forgetting that are probably feeding Google my data?

Note: I prefer Apple over Google and Iโ€™m not ready to go full privacy-hardened, I want to find a balance between convenience and privacy protection.

So I'm moving from Samsung to iPhone soon, mainly because I despise Google. Want to cut Google out as much as possible while I'm at it.
