Exactly, trump only cares about himself, so either this move will generate him money directly or it is to make media stop talking about Epstein.

Couple days after saying he can prevent elections by going to war

[-] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 months ago

It's really too bad most US citizens are genuinely too dense to put this together.

[-] Makhno@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

What are you talking about? This is literally being talked about all the time.

Get off your high horse, ya dunce

[-] HaveMeOnYourPodcast@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

It's being talked about in places like this where a tiny fraction of the people are aware of what's going on but not between normal everyday people. I can tell you with no uncertainty that only two or three people in my entire workplace of a few hundred people are even remotely plugged in. Hell even the union reps are asleep at the wheel. They're too busy trying to take care of their kids or pay their rent.

[-] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 months ago

Thank you, it's not like a third of the country voted for all this shit and another third apathetically didn't care what the fuck happened.

[-] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 0 points 6 months ago

Curious how you know exactly what hundreds of people do or don't know. Did you go and ask each one?

[-] HaveMeOnYourPodcast@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

Yes. I actively engage the people I work with to figure out who is and isn't safe to talk to about this sort of thing and to try to get more of them involved in the community.

Just a reminder the Trump tried to organize a coup against Venezuela the last time he was in office (John Bolton, the national security advisor, said so in an interview)

It was a soft coup in the guise of that guy: Juan Guido.

He popped out of nowhere, months (maybe even a year) after Venezuela's elections, with the US supporting him as the legitimate winner. And because the US does it, so do all the puppet European states.

It was really confusing episode to me at the time. Only when Bolton's interview came out did it make sense to me.

[-] ChokingHazard@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

Maduro was impeached and refused to step down. They didn’t need a coup, just to support the constitutional government.

[-] jcb20165@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 6 months ago

But ma When are we getting the Epstein Files

[-] CubitOom@infosec.pub 2 points 6 months ago

We got the Epstein files at home.

It looks like a Bill Clinton flew on his private jet 37 times and complained that Epstein stole his child prostitutes while also being best friends with Epstein. Case closed! Thank you for your attention in this matter.

the US will never stop meddling internationally as long as they can keep the majority of us focused on homegrown stressors directly impacting our daily lives. they have wrapped themselves up in too many interests. Venezuela now, Laos then. who knows where next?

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

He's not merely looking to meddle. He's looking to make money for the oligarch class. There's a ton of natural resources and labour for them to exploit there. If you're organized you may get some of it.

[-] chosensilence@pawb.social 2 points 6 months ago

"meddle" is a placeholder for whatever evil you want to take its place.

Bringing peace, freedom, and democracy to a bunch of stinky people! U! S! A!

There's also oil in Guyana that America wants and Venezuela wants from Guyana, so Venezuela is bringing up an old claim to the Essiquibo region of Guyana to have access to the coast for oil. It's always about oil. America already owned the politicians in Guyana and it's a little harder to control Venezuela.

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

One more reason to hurry over to renewables

[-] Quadhammer@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

We can actually make oil from plastic now so

[-] snausagesinablanket@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

I already knew this because Pete Kegseth included me in his Signal chat.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 months ago

2026 is getting closer, so he's got to start a war to delay the Senate midterms.

Nobel Peace Prize in sight

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 months ago

It’s frankly shocking to learn how many weak, servile cowards there are among the US’s top generals.

[-] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 0 points 6 months ago

If he declares war, he can cancel the next election. Is that how that works?

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

He can't declare war OR cancel elections.

Won't stop him from doing both, though.

[-] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 0 points 6 months ago

I thought there was something in the constitution that let the president suspend elections if the US is at war? If not, my bad, I must have misunderstood.

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

We've had lots of elections in time of war. The major conflicts of the 20th century that resulted in a military draft century (WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam) all had Presidential election. Hell, there was an election during the US Civil War.

[-] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

You may be thinking of Lincoln suspending the writ of habeas corpus during the Civil War?

Constitution, Article 1, Section 9, Clause 2:

The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.

Lincoln signed off on a law saying that the President could suspend the right under the same conditions.

[-] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 months ago

Possibly, I can't remember. It's possible my brain is making stuff up.

[-] Supermikea@discuss.tchncs.de -2 points 6 months ago

The people I know that are from Venezuela are pretty happy about this, they see this as a chance to get rid of Maduro.
