It certainly signals you as a mark. Can't count how many conservative trolls have used "They want to make America into North Korea!" to terrify Americans into rejecting everything from Canadian style health care to Haitian earthquake refugees to Columbia's anti-genocide protest movement.

Get away from this rhetoric and quit being terrified of places on the other side of the planet you've only ever heard about as Scary Ghost Stories. You're only a few steps off panicking over Venezuelan Biker Gangs and Ground Zero Mosques.
