The use of content warnings on !asklemmy

TL;DR

Use spoilers for NSFW content that is "within reason" and doesn't break Rule 1 like this :

My NSFW warning

My NSFW comment or post content

This will look like (click the triangle) :

::: spoiler My NSFW warning

My NSFW comment or post content

:::

The longer version

The community rules which seem to need to be balanced by the mods most are:

  1. Be nice & have fun, and
  2. NSFW is okay, within reason.

The lemmy.world site rules also state:

We are not a free speech zone. This CoC lays out expected standards of conduct and behavior. You cannot say or post anything that violates these rules or principles and remain a member of our community. You must follow this CoC. If you are looking for something else, please do. It is not here.

The Moderators are not morality or thought police. Moderators are guided by this Code of Conduct. Post what you want, if what you post follows these rules, principles and the goals outlined above. Not every member of the community will appreciate controversial or explicit posts so use Content Warnings very liberally. We use Content Warnings so community members themselves can decide whether they want to see or engage with a post that may be controversial or explicit.

Bullies, trolls and disruptors are not welcome. We will moderate accordingly.

This is a voluntary community. You chose to be here. When you choose to join, you have implied that you agree with this Code of Conduct and will follow it.

Moderators seek to apply these, sometimes conflicting, rules. In doing so we take the balance of probabilities approach. The majority of comments which have been removed to date have been a clear breach of community Rule 1, however sometimes balancing the requirement to be accepting of NSFW content and the requirement for participants to be nice can be difficult. To make this easier, posters and commentors are encouraged to use the spoiler functionality in markdown to create a content warning on asklemmy. Posts that use a spoiler are less likely to be removed when considering whether they are "within reason" NSFW.

To create a spoiler, use three colons ":" followed by the word "spoiler" and then the warning text to create a content warning. Type your comment(s) on the lines below and then three colons at the end to end the spoiler.

I guess due to luck with circumstances, this is often an issue for me. I wonder how normal it is. I was joking about this today with someone and comparing it to the scene from The Simpsons where Mr. Burns wakes up from being shot and randomly starts yelling Homer's name when asked who shot him. Thirty minutes later someone tried to confront me because I seemed like the most likely candidate for who stole their mail.

Last job killed my love of IT, management beat it out of me. Wonderful company, demotivated by my manager from the first week. Couldn't be a nicer guy, smartest tech I've ever met, Peter Principled his was into management.

Never been paid that much, took about every Friday off on PTO, total WFH, can't say what my benefits cost but it wasn't $100/mo. in total. My last job was half the pay and benefits, was so much happier. I think of that every time I read a comment about why companies need to pay more to satisfy us. Everyone should have a look at this. Had ALL that at my penultimate job, NONE at the most recent.

I feel so weird, especially at this time of life with a solid resume, interviewing for PT work at Lowe's. Thinking I'll be happier than a pig in shit spending 4 hours a day, just walking around helping people, doing what ever bullshit I'm asked to do. Looking to see how it goes, see if there are ways to work myself up to FT, better schedule, supervisor, whatever.

Thought about "retiring" to work in a hardware store to keep busy and fit, but not for a decade+. Excepting my credit card bills, and what my wife sends home to the Philippines, she makes enough to cover everything. Won't take much to take the edge off.

I love hardware and tools and plants, about everything they sell. Hoping to learn a lot as well. Helping people is really satisfying to me, and I'm excellent at handling customers. LOL, I'm best with the angry ones, sometimes get them apologizing. :)

Need a sanity check, am I losing it!? Been through the worst depression of my life the past few years, hoping this will break me back into a normal state of mind.

I heard Tuta/Mullvad are quantum-resistant end-to-end encrypted and that Mullvad VPN is better at avoiding trigging captcha.

While Proton services are hosted in Switzerland which has the strongest privacy laws in the world and avoids the surveillance of NATO.

Because every time I check on articles apparently "poor" people according to them are guys with 10000 euro ready to spend like that.

Also the apps for car buying seem broken, they only offer you totaled cars or cars that need serious work at low budgets.

Cats, dogs, bears, owls, weasels. Most of them could seriously injure/kill an average human with minor difficulty and yet we find them adorable?

Does not compute.

What is hexbear? (leminal.space)

I saw a post that talked about racism towards people and when I talked about it the response I got was very heated and a person even called lemmy.world a community of 'hitlerites'

I have been around for a week or so and this is my first time seeing such explicit vulgar reaction towards another community, is this a one-off or should I block hexbear?

Can they rush in after the first two words, before you say "not"? Can they enter if they stuff their ears before they hear the final word?

Like, you just look weird if you sitting by yourself (example: waiting at a bus stop) and just stairing into space, so like its basically social expectation to be on your phone when you are by yourself.

Plus, just feels like if you don't have a phone on you, you are missing a lot of information (access to the internet, maps, etc.) that you might need in case you get lost or something.

The last great modern games I've played it's RE4 remake but that mostly thanks to the ground up job done by the groundbreaking original from 2005, so I "disqualify it"

Any topic is good. Don't care about format or where it's published as long as I can access it (substack, random PDF, journal, etc). Looking for deep and rare thought, but essay length for a short reading.

EDIT: Also I am particularly looking for stuff not as much in online or nerd culture.

And what's your routine like?

I'm the kind of worker who prioritizes life over work. So that means I care about having light schedules if I know when it's suitable and if my expenses can still be met which currently, I'm in the hole on that. If I can get away with using as much PPTO/PTO/Sick days as possible, I'll do it. If I can afford to take points while balancing my expenses, I'll do that too and have done that.

I typically work nights and I like working nights in nearly all of the jobs I've been in when available. I can't stand morning and day shifts because it takes me a little longer to get warmed up during the morning and day. I actually used to have burned through mornings by sleeping through them.

But on my off days I do try to make up for some sleep at nights.

I hate when the cursor is left in the middle of the screen when play is pressed, but I found that I frequently do it myself...

Because, unless you go every weekend I honestly can't complain (Europe) about the taste of the meals (even though they're rising in pricing).

Also for what I've seen the ones we have are smaller than USA big menu
