The best type of e-bike for replacing car trips is the cargo bike. Sturdy, capable, and often able to haul lots of cargo or even multiple humans, electric cargo bikes are rewiring cities to adapt their infrastructure for more human-centric transportation. Parents are using them to take their kids to school, businesses are using them for last-mile delivery, seniors are using them to improve their mobility, and cities are using them to replace traditional car- and truck-based services, like snow plows and garbage pickup

Me and my partner just acquired two commuter style bikes and we've been having a blast realizing how much shit we can actually bike to rather than drive. We've been getting our groceries exclusively by bike the past three weekends and it's seriously opened my eyes to how wonderful and feasible biking can be. I finally understand why bike people are so passionate about these issues.

I feel like I've finally emerged from a carbrained fog that has plagued me for decades now.

Hard agree. The best thing I've ever purchased was an Aventon Abound. It has replaced my car for any trip within 50km. Errands are fun, my commute is enriching instead of the most stressful part of my day, I get exercise and interact with nature every time I leave the house. My precious electric donkey has made biking so pleasant and utilitarian that my next move will only be to cities with more infrastructure for it. Cargo ebikes are so close to the ideal mode of personal transportation that it would be hard to surpass them.

do you live in a particularly flat or hilly area?

Very hilly and windy. Typically biking sucks here after the first 2km. With the ebike the terrain feels flattened and I always feel like I have a tailwind.

i'm really hoping my mom gives me the one my uncle is giving her. she doesn't want it and it's the exact style I was looking for (one of those heavy duty black ones with cargo racks and nice tires)

i have a feeling it will end up being a sort of xmas "present" but secret so he doesn't know
