The far-right congresswoman has increasingly broken ranks with the MAGA movement, leading even Donald Trump to wonder ‘What's going on with Marjorie?’

Marjorie Taylor Greene has hit out at her fellow Republicans for "doing nothing" about rising food and healthcare costs in her latest breach with the Trump administration.

In an interview with the conservative broadcaster Real America's Voice on Tuesday, the Georgia congresswoman warned that letting Joe Biden's Affordable Care Act subsidies expire at the end of the year would "crush" Americans' finances.

Those subsidies are now at the heart of a government shutdown that's lasted 15 days and counting. Senate Democrats are demanding the subsidies be extended as a condition of reopening the government while Republicans are refusing to budge.

This is like the third time I've agreed with her in the last month or two wtf is going on

[-] AreaKode@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

This is the really loud rat that slept in the wall right next to your head and pissed you off every night!

Now the ship is on fire. That loud, annoying rat is loudly abandoning ship. She may act dumb, but she's making some smart decisions (for her own preservation) right now.

[-] wheezy@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago

I think her being the "smart" one should tell us something about the rest of the Republicans. She's not the smart one. The rest of them are confident in the fascists ability to hold power through state violence. She appears smart because she's reacting to the unfavorable view most people have of the administration (while remaining loyal to Trump and never calling him out by name).

She's not being fed talking points now; so she actually is just defaulting to a somewhat reasonable position from shit she sees as popular.

She's not a part of the main leadership and she has only ever made a name for herself by being "more radical". Well, the Democrats are limp dicks and the Republicans are rounding up people and putting them in labor camps. The only move she has is to literally just say reasonable shit to remain relevant.

The Overton window has shifted so far right that MTG seems like a bleeding heart liberal in comparison to the rest of the Republican Party.

[-] BassTurd@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

If you only take into context the things that we agree on over the past month or so, her opinions on those topics are bleeding heart liberal. I wouldn't say the Overton window has shifted so much as I would say she's presenting a persona to save her bacon and trying to not get voted out next election.

[-] lemming741@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

She's betting on collapse

[-] delgato@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

She recently was on Tim Dillon podcast and my impression of the situation: She’s a duplicitous lip-server. Shes delusional enough to rationalize the impending healthcare disaster the dems point to as actually “lapses in Obamacare”, not at all because the BBB bill just passed by her party. Also, she is just protesting with dems where convenient because she is capitalizing on some popularity internal to MAGA. It’s easy to hold her party leaders to account and follow through on promises if that means getting some leverage later on.

[-] klammeraffe@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That and I bet she’s gonna run for president later. She’s banking on maga failing and wants a long history of “rational thinking”

She reminds of the people who are so astronomically stupid they actually believe that conservative politics will help the average person. Her entire ideology is falling apart in front of her eyes and, too her very likited credit, she’s standing up for the people she represents.

If only she wasn’t a massive piece of garbage in countless other ways and so utterly stupid I’m amazed her last braincell can even fire in semi regular intervals with burning up like a 20 year old CPU being asked to run some unoptimized AAA junk at 4k.

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

You're probably just becoming more like her surely she would never change lol

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The headline gets it wrong. She's not breaking ranks with MAGA. She's beginning to lead it.

She's breaking ranks with Trump.

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

She's breaking ranks with Trump.

"The House is not in session, which I think is inexcusable. Mike Johnson should be calling us back. Because we should be working, not only on our appropriations but building an offramp off of Obamacare for the American people... and passing president Trump's agenda and executive orders."

Can't help but feel like she's not so much breaking ranks with Trump - but instead she has said one or two things that the media has spun up to make it sound that way for clickbait headlines.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

It's weird how Marj is just now figuring the Republican Party is full of Republicans.

High cost of living for the non-centimillionaires? Who gives a flying fuck!

The conservative project is about punching down on liberals, women, POC, LGBTQ, non-xtians, foreigners, and especially the poor. It's about lifting up the very rich and platforming Nazi assholes like Charlie Kirk.

None of which is going to do anything about healthcare costs, or cost of living. It's not intended to.

[-] jbloggs777@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 month ago

It is nothing new to her. Like many/most politicians, she is an opportunist. She found a way to make it into the house, and now she has other ambitions, she is looking for another way to achieve that.

I wouldn't be surprised if the russian influenced far right talking point feeds (and indirect but related funding) aren't influencing this change too.

[-] the_q@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 month ago

This has to be a long con.

[-] reptar@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Idealism, moral compass, the greater good, these things are anchors in modern times.

She keeps this up maybe I'll change my tune. Right now all I can say is she's not an idiot

[-] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I mean... she voted for the healthcare subsidies to expire by voting for the Big Bullshit Bill.

I feel like she's just playing the usual games here. She could have not voted for the BBB. The Democrats are simply trying to roll back changes that were made in the BBB.

So, was she just an idiot who didn't read the bill (possible) or just playing the rotating villain (more probable imho).

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I think I kind of believe her when she said she cares now because her adult children's premiums will be doubling.

And I have an even easier time believing that she didn't know that was going to happen until after she voted for the bill.

[-] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Damned plausible is what it is.

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

She's a nat fly. She just goes from one thing to an other. The BBB is in the past, she's seen something else shiny.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I like how she’s changing but republicans have always screwed the working class. I guess she’s just figuring out what her party is about. I’m in full support of her calling out both parties for allowing Israel to buy their loyalty with AIPAC money though

[-] Sunflier@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago
[-] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

But see, now, it's ruining the wrong people's lives.

[-] Aljernon@lemmy.today 6 points 1 month ago

New Title: Local Republican in denial about what being a Republican means shocked to discover truth about Republicans

[-] webdox@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

This is a vile woman who will stab anyone in the back if given the chance. She is, however, consistent. She is anti war/nation building and anti Pedophile She just gets her strings tugged by a different pet billionaire. One that is allowing her to go off cuff more. She would get many centrists vote if she took the Trump crime ring down.

[-] WhatGodIsMadeOf@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago

Watch this all be part of the plan. She'll be the savior that comes and "rescues" the right. The good cop in the game. Raping everybody all the same in the end.

[-] 3abas@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I don't get it? How would that benefit "the right"? Why would they want to go through all that only to be embarrassed and broken by one of their own that has been vocally breaking with them on several other key issues.

[-] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

She's right BUT it doesn't negate the fact that she should have known (or did know but ignored the fact) that Trump wouldn't do a single thing for the American people. He was only ever going to be about fleecing them for as much as he, his family, and his cronies can manage to take.

[-] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

She did know, but at the time, if you didn't support his fat ass you were done. Now that MAGA is feeling the pain and turning, so is she.

She will only do what benefits her. Nothing else.

[-] normalexit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I don't trust her; she's still a terrible Christian nationalist. I do agree on some of her more reasonable takes lately, but she still has an angle to stay in power.

Like keep saying things to challenge the bastards, but I'll never support her.

[-] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

I never ever thought I'd agree with anything MTG had to say, but here we are.

[-] unabart@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

She’s got someone in her ear. No way she’s coming up with this on her own volition.

[-] Newsteinleo@midwest.social 3 points 1 month ago

This actually fits with her. Like she is crazy but she also cares about people, so long as they aren't Jewish or brown.

[-] scaredoftrumpwinning@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

She only changed her tune when she found out her adult kids would be affected. Is this more of the same?

[-] RedFrank24@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

MTG's approach to politics is to say the most outrageous shit to gain attention and clout. She has no principles at all, other than "Any publicity is good publicity".

Right now, she's being crowded out by all the other Republicans like Nancy Mace, Pam Bondi, Kristi Noem etc. being just as crazy as she is. She can't go any crazier without losing support, so she has to pivot in the opposite direction in order to stand out and get the media's attention like she used to.

It's working, by the way. Until she started saying this stuff, did you see anything from MTG? I didn't.

[-] DioramaOfShit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago
[-] dhork@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I wouldn't tap that

[-] NateNate60@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

The more I hear from this woman, the more I feel like there might actually be a decent heart deep down inside who wants to better her country, but is being hindered by an incredibly stupid brain that is calling the shots.

[-] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

You do kind of have to admire her seeming to stick to her principles. It's just a shame that those principles are usually deranged.

Mtg baby face turn was not on my 2025 bingo

[-] buttnugget@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Her words are hardly “breaking with the Trump administration” if you read the article. At least that’s how I’m looking at it. She’s saying why aren’t we Republicaning harder.

[-] jbloggs777@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 month ago

Nah.. she wants a future political career outside the house, but apparently the crazy laser woman game only works in her current district of burn-the-world-down rednecks...

Now that she helped set the world on fire and the polls are in, she'll change tack like an everyday boring sleazy politician.

did she have some kind of epiphany? or just getting bullied by her GOP colleagues for being a woman, and now she's lashing out?

either way, i wouldn't complain about more of this from more republicans

[-] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

She saw working class white christians being harmed while “doing nothing wrong”. She has some version of morals and a soul she’s just racist.

We know that brain damage decreases empathy, what causes the opposite? What happened to her? There’s no way that she figured out that she’ll be out of a job because she’s a woman.
