Hey, I'm needing some help getting my controller working in game.

It's a Razer Wolverine V2 pro RZ06-0471. It has two switches on the back, I'm using it in 'wireless' (with the 2.4Ghz dongle) and 'PC' mode.

I'm running Fedora 42 with KDE
using steam with proton

Steam recognizes the controller and the device inputs all work fine when I use the input tester in the controller settings on steam. When I open up a game, however, the controller isn't recognized. The glyphs are all showing mouse/keyboard icons.

Edit:

The issue was related to steam having been installed through the discover store (as a flatpak). Uninstalling the flatpak in the discover store, and then installing steam through the terminal (sudo dnf install steam) made the controller be recognized again no problem!

If it works in Steam but not in game, maybe try double checking that you've enabled Steam Input for the game. It should be in the settings menu in the game's library page!

Yes, I've tried with and without steam input enabled. The issue persists regardless of that setting.

Have you tried just turning steam input off? It sounds like you have the controller mapped for kb+m, which is the basic default for steam input.

I have tried with steam input off, yes. Same issue, no recognition. I don't think the controller is giving kb+m inputs, I think those are the only controls showing up because the controller isn't being recognized/prioritized by the game somehow but my kb+m is.

Couldn't hurt to try tweaking udev rules. Others for Fedora/etc:

This looks complicated to me, and my understanding of it is very limited. Is there a guide or something for exactly what I would need to do and how to do it?

I didn't see my specific device listed under the razer controllers rules, I don't know if that would matter or not.

Sorry, I'm not familiar. Is this a command to run, or something similar?

Its a command line/simple gui program- its in the software manager. I use it for making sure my controllers are reading right

Hmm, I didn't see that program anywhere. I'm guessing I don't have it or maybe I'm not looking in the right place?

Probably installed already,

Also is this steam flatpak or native ?

[-] viral.vegabond@piefed.social 2 points 2 months ago

I had to install it, I don't really understand how to use it yet.

It looks like I'm using the flatpak version, in the discover store.

Im not a liux pro but sometimes the flatpak versions of apps have issues because of permissions. Could try installing through terminal with sudo apt install steam

[-] viral.vegabond@piefed.social 2 points 2 months ago

Hey, that did it!! Thank you!

Yay!! Im glad it worked.

Yeah for me it depends on the program, discord i use the flatpak because otherwise all the updates drive you insane. Steam ive always used the native install.
