i'm tagging you as "admitted to wearing mid-calf black socks with sandals and cargo pants at the same time"

[-] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 3 weeks ago

Those are not thigh-highs.

Opensuse dysphoria unlocked. But I guess I'm also a debian, arch, and nixos user so it cancels out

Very snappy.

[-] Reygle@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

I use Linux Mint at work and Pop!OS at home. Sorry to disappoint.

[-] Drekaridill@lemmy.wtf 3 points 3 weeks ago

For all we know, those could be thigh high socks

Can confirm - LMDE is made for lesbians.

[-] Colloidal@programming.dev 1 points 3 weeks ago

For lesbians, by lesbians, with lesbians.

ironically Debian is the straightest OS, it's named after the creator and his girlfriend who became his wife and he had kids with

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Murdock

He named Debian after his then-girlfriend (later wife) Debra Lynn Roundy, and himself.[4] They later married, had three children, and divorced in January 2008.[5]

Although obviously, straight people can make things for lesbians/lesbians can use things made by straight people (and they often do!)

EDIT : I missed the obvious joke : Debian > ebian > (L)e(s)bian(s)

[-] pmk@piefed.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

For some reason this made me think of spaghetti, which is straight until it gets hot and wet, and actually, SpaghettiOS would not be a bad name for a distro. Except for trademark issues etc, but still.

Is that real? Can one hypothetically actually get them? If so, where?

[ Edit: I didn't understand the meme! See comments for context.]

Can we choose to stop having teenage girl manga leg fetish memes associated with Linux? That's my choice because it's not the 90s any more and I'm a middle-aged beardy father of three daughters. This meme is totally seedy and doesn't do any favours for Linux or Open Source.

It's not particularly funny and we can come up with far better memes without making it seem (yet again) like Linux might be mostly for creepy basement-dwelling nerds who haven't met many real women and who aren't creating a welcoming community which truly views women as something more than sex objects.

It's dinosaur-era shit, guys. Please make better memes!

[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

I like the way this comment assumes the unix socks meme is perpetuated by horny neckbeards, not horny transwomen.

[-] Zink@programming.dev 5 points 3 weeks ago

I have the opposite reaction when I see these memes. To me it's a reminder of how inclusive some of my favorite nerdy communities are, on top of being a fun little in-joke like any meme should be. And I'm an old beardy middle aged dad too for whatever that's worth.

However, that doesn't mean the image itself is innocent or appropriate for most audiences. I'm not going to be asking the family's opinion on this one, lol. But I don't see it as a manga fetish thing at all. More empowerment than exploitation for the owners of the legs shown.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I think the socks thing is more of a reference to trans people (or femboys or however they liked to be called) who like linux

EndeavourOS. Not the easiest to find.

[-] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Those legs look weak. What Linux is this?

[-] rem26_art@fedia.io 2 points 3 weeks ago

Gentoo requires you to grow the cotton, process it, and then knit the thigh-highs yourself

Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
