The BMA has calculated doctors pay erosion incorrectly. They have used RPI, which is an outdated measure of inflation and makes pay erosion look significantly worse than it actually is because RPI tracks a lot higher than the more accurate CPI+H.

They have also picked an entirely arbitrary start point for their calculations and if you look on the longer term, like since 2000 and include their recent pay award, resident doctor pay has increased ahead of CPI+H.

I want more pay for doctors but their pay is currently in line with equivalent grades in comparable economies (£38,831-£73,992 for 40hrs as compared to £29,000-£49,000 in Australia, £31,000-£38,000 in New Zealand and £27,000-£59,000 in Canada, though direct comparisons are difficult).

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
