I was fine paying for Amazon to make the highest quality stuff that I wanted to see, like the Expanse, Invincible, the fucking Boys etc as I do believe I can't bemoan the lack of quality programming if I'm not helping foster it.
But then they included ads in the standard package and I jumped back into the high seas. Fuck that noise.
Produced by just means "paid for by," anyway.
So there's a chance it can still suck if Amazon pays the wrong people to make it.
Even if they pay the right people, it may still suck if they try to influence the creative process at all. Over all, I am not optimistic.
The showrunner worked on all three of the TV series so as long as he doesn’t try something like rebooting SGU it might be good.
But if it starts with a drastically older Robert Carlyle defrosting I’m only giving it two episodes.
The one actor who I most want to reprise their role is Michael Welch as Jack

holy shit. so much this
they said it's not going to be a reboot of anything.
Open the gates!
So there’s a chance it can still suck if Amazon pays the wrong people to make it.
Rings of Power.
Amazon has financed the Expanse. That's it. The evil fuckers have zero credit to the quality of the TV adaptation. It was two seasons at SyFy - then, sadly but unsurprisingly, SyFy was unable to turn it into a source of revenue (Hi Firefly :( ) and amazon financed it because the shitbucket in chief at amazon is an Expanse fan.
I was trying to think of a way to shoehorn in my opinion on Wheel of Time, but fuck it, I'll just say it.
Wheel of Time sucked. They fucked it up badly.
Eh I had accepted the major and completely unnecessary changes. In fact, I got used to them and was really enjoying it in the last season as it was finally getting better.
Then it got cancelled for no reason.
I went in thinking "ok, fan fiction, alternate take on the universe", and it was an ok show with some surprisingly great parts. Then the season two plot was just a turtle fucking a snail, and I was done.
Edit: to be clear, it was slow motion WTF, why is this nothing happening?
Maybe you can clear this up for me, but I didn't like it because I couldn't "connect" with any of the characters. Many of the scenes, for all the amazing set, costume, and effects work, just felt flat and uninteresting. Also, the story as told just felt odd like it was hard to follow for some reason. Do you happen to know of a better breakdown of what went wrong here? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills since I can't exactly quantify why I found something with high production values not hitting the mark somehow.
I think it just had that ineffable quality of an adaptation where the people making it genuinely did not give a fuck about the source material. The fact that it ostensibly comes from such a great source gives their shitty, poorly thought out decisions an unearned confidence and gravity.
Most of the people watching it will never know that it shat all over all the things that made Wheel of Time great.
The books are slow at times, but everything has a payoff. Robert Jordan was ridiculously meticulous, where every little thing he introduced had a meaning, and more importantly everything followed a consistent set of rules. Like he wouldn't just give a modern Aes Sedai the ability to rendezvous with her lover 400 miles away just to create a sexy side plot. And if he did give her that ability, he'd have done it within the framework of the rules. Like the showrunners could have used that to introduce Tel'aran'rhiod (world of dreams) a little early, probably through the use of a ter'angreal (magical artifact with a specific function). Instead they didn't give a shit.
When it comes right down to it, they just didn't respect their audience. And when a show doesn't respect its audience, it leaves a stink.
Pirate it and encourage all your friends to pirate it.
This is the way.
I want to believe, I really do, but basically every “new version of thing I loved from childhood” has been profoundly disappointing.
My guess: [bad guy] comes back because [good guy] is actually bad guy now, in a complete reversal of their entire character growth arc, and [bad thing that we took care of in the last show] is back because [history erasing lazy writing so they can just tell the same story again].
I see you have also seen [show/movie brought back after a long gap]!
Just be longer than 10 episodes
But what about the rings of power?
SEAL THE IRIS!

Plenty of Amazon shows are also shit. Just like how Netflix and all the others have a mix of good shows and bad shows.
Someone once pointed out that in this meme, the gate controller is shouting commands to himself. Now I can't unsee it, and neither should you.
perhaps operating the gate is a multi person job and they're commanding the others
How about judging the series after it came out instead of judging a book by its cover? Even if the chances of it being good are slim, it still has a chance. And it would be awful to ignore an amazing series based on assumptions.
It’s not about the book, it’s the profits will go to evil villains and no one needs to see this so bad that it’s worth it.
They say capitalism can be managed by customers controlling their spending but people regularly put their own convenience above everyone else and so that never happens. Nestle doesn’t have to be good because people will still buy their garbage even if they printed “we stole the water to make this” right on the label.
It’s just a TV show. If you can’t live without it then you’re completely broken.
It's not going to be a total reboot either! Same universe as produced that had Jack O'Neil played by Richard Dean Anderson. I hope they guest star Amanda Tapping at least once.
Or, what if the whole thing is about the Ancients before they ascended?
The money comes from somewhere shitty always with these things. All you can do is hope they stay out of it as much as possible and let the artists do their thing
Carnival Row wasn't too bad either IMO
The first season was good, I wasn't super keen on the second.
Let us hope it is the last footwear to fall.
