Linux for my friend (sh.itjust.works)

My friend is kind of set on Ubuntu studio for music produciton. Should I talk them out of it ? I dont care for Ubuntu because of their practices.

Naah, let them. People use Ubuntu Studio with success to run their audio software. What is more important: you disliking Canonical, or them being able to run the software they need?

I don't like Ubuntu for similar reasons, but if that what it takes for someone to dip their toes into the Linux pool, then so be it. It's still Debian under the hood.
