On Piefed you can follow specific users and get notifications for when they do posts.
Not comments though. Although that seems a bit... obsessive if that is what you might want.
Following a user is more like Mastodon than Lemmy, you might wanna use Mastodon in the case I think
True, I am looking for "get threads boosted by this account". If Mastodon did threads well, I would have stayed on it. I wouldn't care for it at all if I could also "follow" accounts on Lemmy (and the accounts that matter were on Lemmy).
There’s no way to follow Lemmy users on Lemmy, though ironically, you can follow Lemmy users on Mastodon.
You can also follow a user’s RSS feed. The URL format is: https://HOSTNAME/feeds/u/USERNAME.xml?sort=New
Thanks. I'd not want to add a 3rd thing, RSS, into the mix, so following from Mastodon might be a workaround. Ideally, I would "follow" in Lemmy itself!
MBin allows to follow individual users, including these from Lemmy.
Expect lack of comments for some posts for these users for the same reason as in Mastodon: the user might have posted to communities not subscribed from your instance yet as well...
