Doesn't this miss the core problem? Social media is divisive, dishonest & addictive by design. Great that one country is protecting kids from it, but it doesn't change Big Tech.

Why does the rest of the world have to go to so much trouble to protect billions of people from a tiny number of bad people?

People spend money on home security because they don't know who the burglars are, but here we know exactly who we need to deal with, and there aren't very many of them either.

the core problem is that these sites have an implied duty of care and these laws absolve them of that so they can continue serving gambling ads and cranking up the addictiveness of the algorithm. Children can and have worked around this nonsense except now the platforms have no incentive to protect them.

Also you can still groom kids on Roblox or Blue sky and funnel them into a private discord server because none of that is social media apparently.

Straya has been cooked for so long the smouldering remains are hardly recognisable.
