I don't even look at the news anymore because Im sick of seeing that ugly fuckin mug every time

[-] Armand1@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

So... apart from everything?

I wish I was bored, rather than worrying about the next atrocity.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

Very privileged of him to be able to feel bored rather than terrified.

Remarkable how no matter what's going on, USians will find a way to look down on everyone else. When things are fine in the US, the rest of the world are bad for having their own problems. When shit hits the fan in the US, the rest of the world are bad for not caring about the US' issues.

[-] Demdaru@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

You think? Because honestly, I got so desensitized by now I honestly cannotncare less.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works -1 points 3 months ago

Yes. If you're desensitized, you're in a privileged position where the problems don't affect you. For now.

My living standard fell down heavily even tho I earn a lot more than I used too, cannot travel, have to watch out for promotions on food.

Just over yonder there is an actual war happening as I live in Poland, with one of our neighbours that we know wants to fuck us too, with growing fear of incoming escalation and doubtful allies.

NATO is set to soon fall apart due to USA, EU tries to become more and more like federal goverment, my own country chose nationalistic idiots and only now, slowly, cuts down their influence...

And all that next to "normal" crap like being forced to stay in a workplace I feel hateful of with no prospect of any possibility of having an actual career because I ended up in a dead end job.

I am not priviliged - I am tired. When all I see and hear are bad news, bad becoming worse becomes new normal, new baseline. And sure, it could be worse - war could actually reach us, NATO could dissolve etc., but if your argument for why I shouldn't be desensitised is literal WWIII then I dunno what to say to you.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

That's a good point. There is also being desensitized due to being crushed from it. I stand corrected.

Ah, the Nothing Ever Happens community not knowing how to look for all the things that are happening.

If you actually tried, you could find a rich tapestry of events, stories, discoveries, and people doing interesting things, it's that you've let large political stories overshadow all of that and are expecting the same level of "Let's get a streamer reacting to another streamer reacting to a debate between four influencers while subway surfers runs in the corner" level of spectacle.

Make your own spectacle in your head, stop expecting the internet to deliver you dopamine on demand.

Genuinely, this post makes me pissed. I hope OP is a kid or this was an attempt at irony, because adults who feel this way about the world are worthless.

As a professional honorary Internet Doctor, I'm prescribing OP a week off work with no Internet and an eighth of psilocybin mushrooms.

Get all your scrolls in tonight OP! I'll be outside your house first thing tomorrow to cut the Internet lines and deliver your assigned crate of offline media. Stay hydrated and please do not resist your treatment!

[-] Apeman42@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Is this a service anyone can sign up for?

[-] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Yes, house calls only

[-] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 months ago

there are a lot of interesting stuff, you are just bad at searching for them

[-] salacious_coaster@feddit.online 1 points 3 months ago

The other things going on don't get as much clicks. Need to seek it out specifically.

Movies Music Art Science Video games Biology Linguistics Books Baseball Basketball Soccer Engineering

Just off the top of my head all the things I would rather talk about than politics

But don't you know? A hotel worker in Minneapolis was fired over 'doxxing' of ICE agents! This is so important to know for everyone! One person said here on Lemmy that US politics posts are about the most important events in the world. We must demand a response from US partners to the firing of the Minneapolis hotel worker.

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 3 months ago

I’ll just check and see if that’s going on in my street right now.

[-] Ste41th@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

US politics posts are about the most important events in the world

Not being funny but I think US politics is turning into a shitty reality show that everyone has to watch

HUMAN BEINGS MAKE LIFE SO INTERESTING. DO YOU KNOW, THAT IN A UNIVERSE SO FULL OF WONDERS, THEY HAVE MANAGED TO INVENT BOREDOM. -Death

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

At first I was like, why are we shouting? And then I realized, Terry Pratchett is why we are shouting.

[-] AstralPath@lemmy.ca 0 points 3 months ago

You find world news interesting? For me that's the most boring subject anyone could possibly bring up.

"Oh, Trump's being a prick again? Didn't see that one coming. Oh, people are fighting and killing each other again? How surprising. We're still killing the planet and almost all the most prominent people in the world only care about stock prices? Shocker."

I'd rather discuss literally anything else.

[-] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

I think the point is that it's interesting in the "this is getting more frightening, we're at a precipice in human history" sense, not the "wow, now this is a new atrocity" sense. Considering it really is what everyone is focusing on, can they be blamed for wanting the interesting news to be, I dunno, more life affirming perhaps.

Or were we just too bored with the news having to dig for, or contrive, frightening material
