Above friendship, above family, above morality, above any flavor of faith. All he has in the world is money, and he thinks himself successful, so he'd sell everything in the world for just a little more."

This 100%. The sad truth about true greed is that greedy people don't want to have things, they want to live in a continuous state of obtaining more things. They are black holes of desire that can never be satisfied with what they've already acquired.
