So, I was looking for sci-fi mystery slop and remembered I only got part way through the first season of Dark, the German (relevant in the spoiler tag) Netflix time travel murder mystery show. I really like the take on time travel, though I have to say it is very very funny that:

spoilers for season one and two of DarkThe time travel rules conveniently mean that they cannot travel to anywhere between 1920 and 1953 since its "present day" takes place in 2019 and the wormhole discovered conveniently only goes 33 years in either direction.

But the real reason I felt compelled to make this post is about the twist in season two where it is revealed that Oops all incest. That's right guy ends up accidentally becoming his own grandpa (literally) and causing an apocalyptic temporal paradox and because of said paradox it is revealed the over half of all romantic relationships in the show are unwittingly incest.

lmao possibly, Germans are freaky. Also picked it up again because apparently it wasn't cancelled and was always planned as a self-contained three season arc.

Worth a watch though and I am not entirely certain it's as you say, it took me trying to figure out the consequently convoluted family tree interactions and then I looked up a graph on reddit and was like, holy shit lmao.

I've actually seen the first season of Dark, and I liked it. Gonna try to get my wife into it. There is a dub, but I would prefer to watch it subbed. I'm fine with animated dubs (they're all dubs, ink is silent, at that point you're talking about loyalty to country of origin, e.g. Japanese animation watched in Japan because... reasons) but with live-action? It's gotten way better but still feels off. Netflix dubbing is pretty good though, I must say. But, as an armchair film buff, I watch movies in the original audio. But, wife may need the dub. We'll see.

The same writers did 1899 as well, it only got one season and ends on a cliffhanger though. So no incest in that one.

Yeah, that was because right after it came out, the author of a graphic novel called Black Silence came forward and pointed out how heavily 1899 plagiarized key aspects of the book.

One of the best shows I've seen, though I wasn't too happy with the way things resolved in s3

spoilerThe fact the old lady just got some new knowledge in one of the loops kinda broke the rules of the world, and I was expecting it to be revealed that it's not an infinity but instead a triquetra, since the show was obsessed with the number 3
But all things considered I found it quite enjoyable

I watched this show before I knew about twin peaks. "Twin peaks reference!" they said about certain parts of the show. Now that ive seen TP I can see the reference and I liked Dark, but I dont think it had the same impact and depth with its twist reveal. I liked the final delivery line though!
