Hi !

Welcome to our monthly thread ! I hope you are well :)

Here we will talk about feature, ui, concept accross the web and app as :

  • voting for a new mods team
  • nomadic identity
  • collaborative writting with color
  • a beautiful ui, Swiping gesture...
  • accessibility idea...
  • a personal project ?

Well, i hope we will find something fun to discuss and share. :)

There was a thread recently which devolved slightly into a war between Lemmy and Piefed.

It made me think about why I am still on Lemmy, since Piefed is supposed to be better...

The issue for me is the UI, I like that lemmy.zip looks like old Reddit, piefed looks rather different and I have yet to find any way to make it look like old reddit.

I think rimu said in another post that the 'compact'(?) view for Piefed is closish to old reddit, but also that they were working on or had already added a way to change the design to the user's preference.

Up to you, obviously, but it may be worth looking through rimu's previous comments to find that comment/explanation.

Ah interesting!

I need to check that out, I had no clue of where to start searching.

He just posted http://retro.piefed.com/ in the release notes in !piefed_meta@piefed.social , maybe that's something that can interest you

Ah, I just had a quick look, and indeed, it is rather interesting, i just woke up in the middle of the night and will check it out further in the morning.

If that can help you, here's a comment I made recently about Piefed features that Lemmy doesn't have yet: https://piefed.zip/post/1008300#comment_3561702

Two are quite up there, Friendica and Mbin's hybrid philosophy, and if an instance goes "poof", posts and instances already federated keep floating around. Also adjacent to both, boosts and following users, which both engines have even for threads and that better allow propagation.

Also a grievance I have with Twitter but that I like competition still uses: tags
Much better than the current copypasta meta, or whatever is the current one for making things relevant.
Also helps finding spammers more easily for blocking them. :v

Welcome!

Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock... and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.

And now with ActivityPub, we are reshaping the web, and achieving much more with lots of freedom. So thank you all, and welcome ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿ˜
