Also Rocket Money.

Spend money to save money without having to look at your own bank statements! Makes perfect sense!

Sponsor Block is one of the essential YouTube plugins. Thanks to that I don't know half of these companies.

[-] Mac@mander.xyz 20 points 3 days ago

And Dearrow by the same creator.

[-] Paddzr@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

What's dearrow? Downsides?

[-] sorrybookbroke@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago

It replaces the thumbnail with a more representative frame from the video (voted by users). The 'arrow' was in reference to a trend where people would put a big red arrow pointed at some shit as clickbait. This is meant to stop clickbait

[-] Paddzr@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Thanks, downloaded and bought it. Happy to pay for good software.

[-] Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

Downside: Because you're hiding the problem it doesn't tell the creator in any way that people don't like "arrow face" type thumbnails and clickbait titles.

I also use it and it's great, but... Yeah.

It’s funny that DeArrow has lead to me watching more videos with super click bait titles. It’s almost as if actually using the content for the title instead of some vague notion or off content question is more likely to pick a video to watch.

I know there’s a reason channels do it but this is just my experience.

[-] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That's the bit I hate the most about YouTube premium. You still have ad! What's the fucking point is I have to get adblock for sponsors.

Drop every single add, including embedded and we can have a discussion.

I'm not going to be paying anyway though

[-] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

another option is to exclusively watch small youtube channels

[-] Alaknar@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

God forbid someone gets popular and starts making money off of their passion!

[-] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

This is Lemmy. You were required to hate on anything that makes money or anyone attempting to monetize anything.

Everything must be free.

as much as I love self-hosting it does get f****** over the top with how up their own ass. A lot of people around here are.

[-] Alaknar@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago

This, plus the "anti-imperialism" which goes so far anti western imperialism that it goes round to being pro russian imperialism.

It's like a clown show here sometimes.

[-] biggerbogboy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago

I love sponsor block, it works pretty much flawlessly apart from when YouTube recommends me a video from literally 30 seconds ago, which is surprisingly often that I can now count it on 2 hands as of the last time I got a scarily new video on my feed,

[-] Sivecano@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 days ago

Sponsorblock go brrr

[-] qevlarr@lemmy.world 47 points 3 days ago
[-] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 48 points 3 days ago

Nebula is the youtubers advertising for their own platform. It's like "like and subscribe" or "subscribe to my patreon".

[-] Gladaed@feddit.org 11 points 3 days ago

They are right anyway.

[-] Drekaridill@lemmy.wtf 24 points 3 days ago

I've actually never seen an elgato sponsorship

[-] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 9 points 3 days ago

It's when somebody's elgato stops working so their logo remains the only thing on the screen for a minute or so

I'm missing Betterhelp, that one really expensive safety razor, and Bambulab for makers.

[-] Flatfire@lemmy.ca 11 points 3 days ago

PCBWay, the Raid Shadowlegends of electrical engineering projects

[-] mirisgaiss@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I was gonna say, for the stuff I watch pcbway is every fucking video

[-] FatVegan@leminal.space 11 points 3 days ago

Better help is so shitty that it makes me turn off a video when my sponsor block isn't working. Bambulab at least makes something "good".

[-] Zwiebel@feddit.org 13 points 3 days ago

Hensson. It is a very good razor, just double the price of others

Skillshare is there, next to Hello Fresh.

[-] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago

Oops. So used to skipping them I guess.

[-] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 24 points 3 days ago

I'm proud to say that I block so many ads, this is the first time I'm seeing most of these names.

[-] JayGray91@piefed.social 22 points 3 days ago

These sponsors are more and more being baked in the video themselves and not part of the system youtube use. That's why I use sponsorblock to automatically skip the portions of the sponsors.

[-] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 18 points 3 days ago

Did you really need to write this like you were sponsored

[-] JayGray91@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago

I swear it's unintentional

revanced user, what are yall talking about?

[-] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 days ago

This was put together by someone who doesn't watch any sports channels. Completely missing all the sports betting sponsors like Fanduel and Underdog.

[-] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

You watch mostly tech and video game channels, I suppose?

[-] cRazi_man@europe.pub 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

You guys are seeing sponsors? Don't people use sponsorblock? I've never heard of (or seen) half these things.

[-] Decq@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

You would be surprised how many people still watch with the normal YouTube ads, so never mind sponsorsblock. I guess the big tech companies succeeded by dumbing everything down to bite-sized technologies. So many younger people can't even comprehend the notion of ad blockers. They are basically on the same level as boomers when it comes to tech literacy.

I'd love to see the YouTube analytics of a handful of really popular videos that have embedded sponsors. Even before the "jump ahead" feature, there must be a massive drop-off of people who just skip five or ten seconds ahead until the sponsor isn't showing again.

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Morgan & Morgan have been showing up recently

[-] Lumisal@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I'm sorry y'all... I'm the one who convinced and helped out the owner of raycons to advertise on YouTube and podcasts before they launched there business, and I did so for free 😭

They're just rebranded Ali express Chinese stuff with better packaging btw. At least back then they were, I don't know about now
