The advantage of already existing, of having the code written and the edge cases handled, counts for less than it did a year ago.

Nah bro.

Folks who believe that aren't doing things where the edge case can properly blow their foot off.

The vibe ecosystem will thrive, out in script kid land (yes, including venture capital start-ups) where the outcomes don't matter to the practitioners.

Back in the real world where hospitals and bridges matter, real code verified by real humans isn't going anywhere.

Y'all need to get over your impostor syndrome against the spicy autocomplete.

I've been finding and taking shortcuts for longer than most. The AI shortcut is the long way around.

Edit: This is a great write up of some real impacts - which all 100% happened when Ruby on Rails released. We all made the same predictions then.

Now that Rails can build a new web app in an afternoon, all this messy legacy PHP infrastructure will just go away.

And PHP has.Gone away. Okay. Well... Somewhere from 95% to 98% of all Internet traffic is now served by PHP. Admittedly, WordPress is more popular than ever. But Rails made it so anyone can replace WordPress. Yep. Any day now...

Edit 2: But Rails plus Vibe Code! Fuck yeah. Goodbye PHP.

Edit 3: We could vibe code replacements for Cobol code...if there was any left.

I was there when Ruby killed PHP.

I was there when Node killed PHP.

I was there when Rust killed PHP.

I was there when AI killed PHP.
