it now supports the Material 3 Expressive visual style.

the new LineageOS release also brings support for a fully customizable quick settings panel.

Those are the two things, to undercut the click bait headline a little.

I get that both are cool to have, functionality-wise at least definitely the customizable settings - but are those really the 'best things about Pixels'?

[-] Zak@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

The best thing about Pixels for me is the no-fuss bootloader unlock, but an unlocked bootloader is already a prerequisite for running LineageOS.

The new UI design is also not universally loved, there was definitely a lot of anger towards it when it first released for being too "iOS-like" or otherwise changing familiar UI constructs like the statusbar too drastically.

I use the stock OS on a Pixel phone but have LineageOS on a tablet, so I think I'll prefer having the same UX across both devices, but tbh it's not that big a deal.

I'd say that Google Lens and the featureful camera app are more important.

It says "fully customizable" but I'm still stuck with 4 big buttons that take up twice as much space as 6 small buttons.

Give me my one-click wifi toggle back, damnit

Give me my one-click wifi toggle back, damnit

The vast majority of people don't use it that way, unfortunately.

[-] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Well yeah it's pretty hard to one-click toggle wifi when it's impossible to do without a rooted phone.

If that was even true before, just....make it an option...??

[-] lka1988@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 hours ago

No, I mean that's why it was changed to the current functionality.

[-] Zwiebel@feddit.org 9 points 2 days ago

GrapheneOS had both of these for a while now no?

GOS is only available on pixels anyway...

[-] eleitl@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

So there are no good things about stock Pixels.

Just got this update, I prefer the system ui being grey since its easier on the eyes vs the new blue theme that matches my wallpaper

I wonder if and when the new Terminal app can be released for non Pixel phones on Lineage. Still stuck with nix-on-droid/Termux here.

[-] Bazoogle@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

What's wrong with Termux?

[-] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 2 points 2 days ago

Can you use banking apps with this

[-] Zak@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

With Magisk and Play Integrity Fix, mostly yes. As it comes. mostly no.

[-] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 2 days ago

I hope it's effective.

[-] BakedCatboy@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

I switched banks partially because of this lol. Used to use Ally now I use Greenfi, no problems with play integrity anymore on stock lineage.

[-] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 2 days ago

For some reason, the UK's NS&I bank app doesn't even work if you have a non default keyboard turned on or developer options. The real kicker is that the app doesn't even have functionality to remove money from your account! Just to view your balance

[-] BentiGorlich@gehirneimer.de 1 points 2 days ago

I'd say it depends on a few things... I have absolutely no problem using ING and Sparkasse apps with my degoogled phone running iodéOS, which is based on lineage OS... As long as you have Google Play services or MicroG running it should work as far as I know, but maybe if you're from the US or at least not from Germany you may encounter problems. I don't know

[-] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Ugh, I just got the nightly from lineage and do not like this new style at all.
