Masks are going to be so in fashion for this neo dystopia we're building.

I still wear a mask in public whenever the COVID numbers start to tick up again. I'll be rocking it permanently once facial recognition is everywhere, including on other people with smart glasses.

Masks will not safe you from been recognised. may be a wig and a big sunglasses would.

[-] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

As far as I'm aware, facial recognition works mostly by measuring distances between identifiable features of a person's face, like eyes, nose, mouth, face outline, etc. Hiding major facial features behind a mask that covers your nose, mouth and jaw can definitely confound at least some facial recognition systems. Wearing a mask and dark sunglasses is better, though some systems can penetrate through dark lenses (there are special sunglasses built to prevent this).

Aviator shades, can't beat the physics of reflection vs transmission. If the mask conforms to your jaw, it won't help much; the baggier the better. Use eyebrow pencil and eyeliner to change the brow profile and eye corner locations.

I stopped shopping at Bunnings after the ABC video here. Feel free to do the same.

Just effectively they have monopolised, have unfair trading practices with small businesses that supply goods, are increasingly changing product for their own brand which then means the "lowest price guaranteed" is pretty null and void because you can't buy their items anywhere else.

Just noting, I watched this a long time ago, but it left a bad enough taste in my mouth to stop me from going there any more

Oh, you mean they have just become supermarkets.

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago

I had to grab some screws the other day and they literally had ripoffs of Really Useful's storage units there. They've always been a bit shite, but this past year they've dived headfirst into shitty chinese marketplace crap.

[-] TheHolm@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

One more reason to not go there again, they sells only overpriced shit now.

[-] vaderaj@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

What are the alternatives? I am am expat, and I like Bunnings (as in like it, I even purchased my water bottle there lol). Now that they started surveillance what are the similar stores where I can kill my curiousity?

[-] YeahToast@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I now just go to the specialist stores. Some times might be a bit more money, but often much better service.

  • Go to mitre 10 / dahlsens for generalist store (or if you're lucky you might have a small family business) -Total tools / Sydney tools for tools
  • Reece for plumbing goods -Local wood provider for wood. -Metal land for any metal needs etc. Sure, strictly speaking it's not as convenient.. but good service, good quality (variable) , not supporting a Monopoly. -----------
[-] wildwhitehorses@aussie.zone 1 points 2 months ago

Dont they own Sydney tools? As in, is Bunnings owned by Wesfarmers still?

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago

nah, they own TKD. Sydney tools is owned by the two brothers who started it.

[-] TheHolm@aussie.zone 1 points 2 months ago

Buying Online, and some other small hardware stores still around. If you are building anything bigger, specialized retailers will give you much better price.

Time to install IR and UV LED strobes in hats.

Good, as long as they're doing it as they have said, comparing a facial scan to a know cunt and discardibg it if it doesn't match, less cunts the better

Tolerating the intolerant is intolerable.
