"Distances" isn't the same as "severing ties from".

Cancel the contract, you fucks!

That it happened pnce is enough to never trust them again

Discord needs to distance itself from age verification itself.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 34 points 1 day ago

tl;dr "Discord told Kotaku its work with Persona was part of a “limited test” which has since been concluded."

. They will still use palantir. This is a pr maneuver

The cost benefit ratio of straight up lying in PR statements and privacy policies has become such that they're less than worthless to readers

[-] MalReynolds@piefed.social 1 points 14 hours ago

Yup, but not worthless to their lawyers, so they're full of weasel words and yet still bind the consumer to horrible conditions. Yay, late stage capitalism.

I don’t know how all these tech companies keep making obviously stupid and immoral decisions like this.

“We need someone to process our emails.”

“Oh well we have two options. This one costs a hundredth of a cent less per email, but they also run their machines on the blood of children and they ritualistically sacrifice minorities as part of their business model.”

“You said a hundredth of a cent? Perfect!”

I think you answered your own question. To expect them to do anything other than what will increase their wealth is naïve. Anything that seemed like a "moral" thing that they did in the past simply happened to be more convenient.

[-] hperrin@lemmy.ca 2 points 23 hours ago

Yeah, I suppose so. It just sucks that it seems like every single company is run by a monster.

[-] Deyis@beehaw.org 2 points 13 hours ago

Because companies have a legal responsibility to increase value to shareholders; morals don't enter into it.

[-] Unusable3151@lemmy.ml 2 points 23 hours ago

Only people who are okay with being monsters are allowed to take and keep those roles. That's capitalism, baby.

Oh sure... I wonder what other Palantir front they will do business next.

Still worth migrating away since they've gone public a bunch of villains sit on the board who'll look to profit off your data.

I’m glad I clicked off a service that required Persona verification.
