President Vladimir V. Putin threatened to cut off remaining gas supplies to Europe as the Iran war drives a surge in energy costs.

Russia has a question for the European countries that have shunned its energy exports: Do you miss us now?

The Kremlin is enjoying a sudden resurgence of its importance as a global supplier of oil and gas, as the conflict in Iran disrupts energy production and shipment across the Middle East and sends global energy prices soaring.

. . .

Mr. Putin spoke with bravado about European nations’ longstanding plans to phase out imports of Russian gas in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, threatening to accelerate the divorce himself as prices spike on the continent.

“Now other markets are opening up, and perhaps it’s more advantageous for us to stop supplying the European market right now,” Mr. Putin said on Wednesday to a state television reporter, Pavel Zarubin, who chronicles the Russian leader.

Him cutting off supply would be a dream come true. He's definitely bluffing because he thinks he's cornered the market.

Good. Wake the citizens of the western world the fuck up and teach us that we are not immune to consequences.

Edit: For clarity, since it does sound like I'm celebrating a Putin victory.... that's not what I'm happy about. Was poorly written. I'm happy about price shocks coming home to roost in the western world in general, as a way to wake people up and get people to care more about everything that is happening. Fuck Putin, fuck Russia.

the US and Israel do not represent the entire West. this is Israel and Trump's war and nothing more

WTF? You are siding with Putin against Europe?
Piss off idiot. Europe didn't start any of those wars.
Europe never acted as if we are invulnerable, but have tried to act responsibly in international affairs.
Helping Ukraine that was illegally attacked by Russia, and NOT helping Israel/USA in their illegal attack on Iran.

All of Europe clearly felt when Russia shut off the gas in 2022, so what the fuck are you on about that we should feel invulnerable?

It's unfortunate and disgusting that the US and Israel action are having an effect on Europe. But Europe should also have done everything in their power to get off of Russian oil years ago when they invaded Ukraine. There was opportunity to protect themselves, and wasn't fully taken. It's still fucked that they are affected by someone else's actions. This should be a wake up call to everyone, but governments seemingly don't respond well to wake up calls historically.

If he follows through it will be a good thing for Europe in the long term as it will drive renewable and EV adoption. Which has already happened to an extent as a consequence of the Ukraine war.
