They better be getting a fuckin paycheck too.

Don't get to steal peoples work, then go "oopsie", slap their name in credits, and think alls well.

Hundred percent agree. It should always be more expensive to steal and get caught than to not steal in the first place.

As I remember the original author said something in the past after they settled, to his satisfaction. We can only assume he got money, as no details was public. But at least the original author said he is satisfied.

Hopefully they also have a credit in their bank account.

As someone who grew up playing the originals, it would be kind of nice to try this game and see what it's like. But it's not worth using something other than Linux to make that happen. Oh well.

For those unaware, the original Marathon games were in the same vein of 2.5D fps as the original Doom. It had a more foreboding sci fi atmosphere, and has been credited as one of the first fps games to actually weave narrative elements into the gameplay itself.

It's also freely available and open-source these days.

Also it is awesome. Dual shotguns or phasers? Why yes please.

Because artists can live of recognition, right?

The artist said it has been resolved to his satisfaction, and they listed him as a consultant, and consultants normally get paid, so I think it's reasonable to assume he did get paid fairly, although he may not be able to disclose that directly.

I don’t know if I’d want my name attached to this game.

they stole a bunch of the artists work during the game's production; the fact that this artist's visual design language basically set the stage for the entire product, even after the stolen work was removed illustrates how fucked bungie was when they got caught out. sure, some will say "oh it's not bungie's fault, one of their art leads stole it and didn't admit it" nah fuck that, bungie understand how source files work - they should be able to see some progression work, at the very very least.

so they settled and put the victim's name in the credits, because it's the right thing to do after exhausting most of the wrong things to do.
