Hello everyone,

I am curently looking for a tool/Website/something for tracking my donations to different projects. These are partially OSS projects, but could also be NGO's, organizations and stuft like that.

What I want to achieve is set myself a monthly limit in what I want to spend in total and within this tool I want to split this amount to different projects and Organizations. Ideally there would be proposals from project lists from e.g. the EFF, FSFE, prototype Fund, sovereign tech fund, etc. and support for services like liberapay.

Does anybody any good proposals to have a closer look at?

I checked tools like

But they are more designed for receivers of donations. I want something for a donations giver.

Sounds like you want to set a budget and then make sure you’re adhering to it. There are a few options for that. YNAB (you need a budget) is popular in the commercial space and actual budget (https://actualbudget.org/) is an open source project that’s similar. Firefly iii (https://www.firefly-iii.org/) is another open source budgeting software. Those are all web-based.

I’d expect a spreadsheet could be ‘good enough’ depending on how much integration and automation you want.

Thanks for the Tooltips. But I think instead of using a separate budgeting tool I could also just use my already existing banking solution and get the same result. These Budgeting Tools do not Hard limit or enforce a Budget. Because (for me) they are just more advanced Excel Sheets.

But I want something more in the way of:

  • I sent some amount of money once per month
  • I can choose projects I want to donate to
  • Everything is tracked, but just visible for me
  • No possibility at all to exceed my budget and no linkage to my real banking account

But I see that this intention of me was not clear in my inital post.

Would a simple spreadsheet not work for this?

A simple spreadsheet is to "raw" for me. It basically boils down to: Everything needs to be setup manually. But I want to manage donations, not develop a donation management tool/Excel Sheet

I know there's a pretty flexible self hosted finance manager called Firefly. Not sure if there's any functionality built in related to donations specifically though.

Figured I'd at least mention it since I only see one other comment so far, just in case it's helpful.

Thanks for the comment. But I think something like a simple budgeting tool does not really fit my need. I could use my existing banking solution and achieve the same thing. But I want harder restrictions like:

  • Sent some money once per month
  • No possibility to exceed the budget, because it is not linked to my bank account whatsoever

KMyMoney? It's a personal finance manager, but you can also use it for your donation tracking.
