I don't think that's the reason for killing pedos. Rather the fact that this adult has hurt or abused a child. Those criminals have always been a target. Nothing new as far as I know.
Everyone has something to lose.
For a prisoner doing 40 years,they lose their opportunity to leave their cell. They lose access to luxury goods like tvs.
Eventually they get put in solitary confinement...
