That's one thing that I suspect to be making it hard for the fediverse to attract users. Maybe lot of people are just tired of social networks and not in the mood to try a new one, so they end up just drastically reducing their social media usage and are happy with it.

I used to be all over social media since the Myspace days but it's been exhausting over the last handful of years. I know I don't use it as much anymore and neither do any of my friends. But like the article said a lot of us still watch video content.
