I've been using a degoogled customROM on a Pixel phone for years now. As a camera app I've been using firewalled Gcam, i.e. the official Google camera app, but forced to be offline.

Since the phone and the custom ROM have reached end of life, I need to switch to a new phone, and I'm considering a FairPhone.

Hence, I'd like to ask all users of degoogled FairPhones: which camera app do you use, and how well does it work as compared to stock?

Tried it just now on the old phone. The UI is a tad janky, but functionality looks good, particularly for photo enthusiasts! Thanks!

Can't recommend any specifically, but OpenCamera works alright.

I use an /e/os fairphone 6 and the stock camera. Hadn't felt the need to switch to another camera app as it works fine (though I only used it to quickly snap pics and not tried to get any fancy sunrise shots etc)

Any idea what the default cam is on /e/OS? Is it opencamera?

AFAIK the default one on the /e/os fp6 is fairphones own camera app. You can toggle the /e/os camera app in the settings, which is a fork of openCamera

How can a phone and a custom ROM reach end of life?

[-] IratePirate@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

The phone's manufacturer (Google in my case) may stop pushing firmware updates, allowing vulnerabilities to remain unfixed and exploitable.

The custom ROM's maintainers may lose interest in the project, or the project may stop supporting the phone in question, again allowing vulnerabilities (this time in Android's source code) to remain open.

Are you referring to a version of Gcam that was hacked / adapted to work with other camera models?
