I love all the apps that are being made, each one has something new to bring, but I have yet to see one implement a community grouping option. Something to view all your communities that revolve around the same theme in one wall. Kind of like mini homes. So far the only alternative I found is making separate accounts, follow only one theme and change between them but it’s definitely not ideal.

None of them do at the moment AFAIK

That’s too bad. I feel that’s the one thing that really annoys me with the fediverse is that decentralized also means fractured. Keeping the integrity of a community is really hard and now you need to check a handful of places to get the whole picture on a subject.

there are a couple of issues on github related to doing this natively through lemmy

i will find and link them in the morning, but try searching https://github.com/lemmynet/lemmy for "multireddits" and "tags"

edit

  • #818 - main issue

  • #3443 - supposed duplicate

  • #3700 - nested communities idea

  • #3071 - another supposed duplicate

  • #317 - somewhat related, post tags

Groups is now a beta feature in the Bean app on ios

I actually looked for this too, connect had some separation with favorites, but I didn't see anything else.

Most of the devs are pulling existing repos for functionally that's common in app structure, but there's no way to even do something like list the communities on the instance you're connected to anywhere but the website yet, because it isn't even a thing on any other social media apps.

We'll get there.

It they can pull your favorited communities. On the community page? Add a drop-down menu for group (last option is always new group) Then they would just need a json file to save your grouping and add the groups to the home selection menu.

I guess the issue is at how to display them in a list that’s organized. You’d need to pull from each community separately and order the messages with an algo…
