And the scientific article if someone has access to it... for science! https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0376635723001419?

Funny how the rewrite took a sentence almost verbatim but decided "no, the Cheshire cat joke has to go"

If ever an article could do with illustrations...

I knew it!! When I was a kid I was told cats don't have facial expressions but they so do!

I think that people compare cats to dogs as both are common pets. Dogs are very expressive, while with cats you have to pay attention and spend some effort to learn their behavior and habits. Many people don't have time or interest for that.

the whole "cats are assholes" thing comes mostly from people viewing cats through a dog lens, expecting them to act like dogs, then being shocked they don't thus they most be aloof and/or assholes

I'm so tired of it. I wish people learnt to communicate with cats in cat!

That would make sense. The cats in my life have always seemed super expressive to me but I was infatuated with our family cat pretty much from birth.

I'm pretty sure all my cats only have "I'm cute, pet me" face.

They have 300 facial expressions for that.
