Seemingly just about everything, except for perhaps some ethical or moral matters. You can never be too sure of anything in this crazy world, and you can quote me on that original thought. However, of all the things both certain and uncertain in this big dollop of a material plane we call a Universe, the truth is pineapple belongs on a pizza
pineapple belongs on pizza
What is another analagous pairing thats apt but controversial if bedgrudgingly socially accepted
That's a good question. Pizza is so universally loved so there's so many passionate opinions on the matter. Sean Connery was the best Bond, maybe? LOL I dunno.
I would say yes, specifically an existential cognitive dissonance. I simultaneously accept my own mortality logically and resist/reject it emotionally.
Since there's no evidence of an afterlife and/or gods, I seek advice from fellow atheists on how to make peace with briefly living on this suffering planet which ultimately not only ends in my own total obliteration, but the total obliteration of all life as if it never was. At some point there's a universe without observers or observation and the rest of time carries on whether it's infinite heat death or not.
What I get in response is advice basically telling me to delude myself and distract myself. Make my own purpose up! I do make up reasons to go on day to day but I'm not stuck on the day to day coping mechanisms to begin with. Worthless advice. This doesn't fix the dissonance feeling. It just doesn't. Apparently it's just that easy for them though. It should just be second nature is the overall attitude I pick up on repeatedly. Doesn't work for me. It's some what similar to the advice people give on how to be confident: self delusion is easier to achieve when you're a dumbass and pairs best with a personal preference of comforting lies over uncomfortable truths. I fully lack that preference. I'll drive myself mad with "truth" (as best I can suss it out) before accepting a lie. Also stinks of hypocrisy given that's the theist's bread and butter moveset.
So, these thoughts gnaw on me in the back of my head almost ceaselessly when I'm not otherwise distracted or occupied with something. The band-aid is Absurdism. Rebel against the void! I'm not very good at taking up that amusing French spirit either, but it's the best I got (Even Camus himself agreed it's an incomplete solution) to excuse my strong programmed survival instincts and not try to overcome them.
How does one audit one’s own areay of cds?
Introspection, self analysis, and honesty go a long way. Not everything has a clean conflict resolution however, as I just described one I don't think I'll ever manage to resolve. It's an extreme example but I'm sure there are many mundane ones too.
I think not seing you have a cognitive dissonance on a topic is what makes it a cognitive dissonance...
Y that?
That question seems ambiguous.
So what have you noticed in yourself applying this developed insight? No need to be comprehensive, one will suffice
