While not much is known about the 60th anniversary finale, this last episode may ruffle the feathers of dedicated “Doctor Who” fans, according to showrunner Russell T Davies.

Very curious how this is going to ruffle feathers.

Since RTD is a big fan of old Who canon, I'm betting he's doubling down on the Doctor not being from Galifrey, and having at least a dozen forgotten incarnations before 1. It's technically already been canon for almost 50 years, but it's been considered a canon error for most of that time.

I need to watch Jodie's run to put some of this in context.

I'm hoping the '99 Paul McGann movie bombshell gets confirmed - that the doctor is half-human.

It currently, most likely, falls in canon under "the doctor lies".

But we've now seen multiple occasions in NuWho where a human-timelord hybrid is effectively just another timelord.

So I think the legwork for "how can that be" has finally been cleared out.

Also I think it's time for this new, more open, Doctor to admit that their fondness for earth isn't pure coincidence.

In the Hartnell series, his granddaughter was half human. The consistency of human and timelord has a few quirks in it, made all the more confusing as the series has progressed.

Been a while since I have seen the old Who, so I might be mistaken.

Oh yes! Great point! I was forgetting that.

“There will be controversial events in [“The Giggle”]. If you listen and watch the commentary on the iPlayer, I unroll a whole new ‘Doctor Who’ mythology for you, based around the events taking place. […] It’s a whole new way of looking at the history of ‘Doctor Who’ and I can’t wait to see the reaction”

LOL, can't wait for millions of Whovian headcanons to burst into flame! Obviously, any new episode ruffles some feathers because Who fans are obsessive at best and possessive at worst, but it feels like RTD is priming people to love OR hate his take here 🤣
