The consequences of these terrorist directives include drownings of adults and children; a miscarriage by a pregnant woman caught in the wire; serious lacerations suffered by children and adults from the barbed wire; and children, among others, passing out from heat exhaustion, but then pushed back into the river by Texas National Guard soldiers.

…wow.

And y'know the funniest fucking thing is when bluemaga rolls around, screeching for support, they go suspiciously silent whenever this is brought up.

Obama, Trump, and Biden all have overseen these monstrosities. Have done nothing about it. We have literal concentration camps in the United States, and an sizable fraction of the entire country wants to just ignore them. Fuck all that noise-- I am not supporting any party who oversees concentration camps with no moves to close them; if the country falls because of it, oh fuckin well. Maybe try not being fucking evil next time.

They aren't content with just ignoring them either. They'd rather point the finger at China and claim China has magical undetectable concentration camps than actually do something about the ones in their own backyard. The hypocrisy is unbelievable.

I'm not an accelerationist, but there's a reason I haven't completely written it off

Jfc the more I learn about the world the more I'm convinced the fascists didn't lose in the twentieth century, they just changed their mask and tactics. How do any of these people live with themselves?

"Tubthumping" really could be seen as a socialist anthem really.

Not heard that one before. It's good.

The US has basically been some flavor of fascist since at least the end of the second world war.

[-] Beat_da_Rich@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 year ago

The US has been "fascist" since its inception. Since before the ideology of fascism was formalized, the US was still the prototype. It's simply just changed flavors every now and then.

[-] roux@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago

I def agree but I've used "proto-fascist" in conversation in the past and it tends to not go over well. I've recently been tying it to the end of the second world war because the US essentially took the torch from Germany. So like our current flavor developed after the war.

It doesn't go over well with whom?

[-] roux@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 1 year ago

Just in the past in mixed groups of people. I've used it around friends and had to explain it. I didn't mean "not go over well" in any sort of catastrophic way lol.

When I see headlines like this, I immediately think of "Tony Abbot" the former prime minister of Australia.

Really fucked up that the headline still makes some sense from that angle. Australia also has brutal prison camps for refugees.
