He'll be 83 this year and senate terms are for 6 years. It's time. One of the best things he can do is set others up for success.

One of the best things he can do is set others up for success.

...and hope that the Democratic Party doesn't set them up for failure.

He should nominate a successor

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

He should definitely endorse someone. Hopefully he already has someone in mind.

And I hope that candidate has a source of funding outside the party, because no progressive can count on the Democratic Party's support, no matter who they're running against.

I've always liked the guy, but hell. He's done his job, move on.

[-] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 22 points 9 months ago

He can quit when he's ready. I want to see some young progressives step up and take the mantle.

Agreed, dude has fought HARD for the American people and it's time for him to step-down and let someone new take up the touch.

He's 82. He can continue to advocate for as long as he wants, but I agree that it's time to move on.

I'll never forgive the democrats, elizabeth warren, debbie wasserman-shulz, or hillary clinton, for what they did to ruin his presidential chances. The one person that would have actually helped Americans.

but no, democrats make too much money with their high moral ground over the republikkkans, why would they want that to stop? There's money to be made in a war, even if it's a political one.

I love you Bernie, I wish I did more to help when I had the chance.

As one of his constituents, I love the guy, but I can fully understand if he’s ready to step down. He’s earned some happy retirement years with the grandkids.

Thinking about his potential retirement has “One Last Time” from Hamilton playing in my head.

Love the guy, one of the few honest politicians. That said, 6 years is a long time. Swap the Senate for the media circuit. You’ll reach more people and get some time with the grandkids.

He should have been President but that’s gone now. He did a great job standing up and speaking out for labor. He’s done his job very well imo. Vermont is a great state. The Democrats can all go to hell with the Republicans for what they did.

[-] stinerman@midwest.social 6 points 9 months ago

I like the guy. He's also too fucking old to be in Congress and Vermont is a safe blue state at the federal level.

I love Bernie, but it is time.
