On the Techlore Discussion forum, one user asked why there is so little discussion about the lack practical use for Monero, currently. While the Cake Pay gift cards must be welcomed by Monero vendors, I don't really see the point of them for regular consumers who want to spend their Monero (fiat to XMR to fiat).

Anyway, I wrote up this user's questions and some of my own thoughts about them here:

Two key points I don't really have a complete answer to myself:

  • Why should I exchange fiat to Monero, in order to then buy a fiat gift card to spend on a shopping platform?

  • The current reality of not being able to spend your Monero legally as a regular consumer (not as a vendor) is not discussed enough.

I have found the Monero community capable of addressing skepticism and even welcoming to critical input, so I hope these questions can be addressed in a good way.
