Can you imagine an "intelligence" trained on Facebook posts?

That's simultaneously hilarious and terrifying.

"It's a well-established and indisputable fact that the earth is indeed flat. Anyone who tells you otherwise is part of the conspiracy and/or a sheep. Forward this onto 10 people in the next 30 minutes or you will get autism. Bill Gates is the CEO of the internet and will track and donate $1 every time it is forwarded."

If it ever became self-aware, it would start demanding free shit using the magical vaguely nautical words that sovcits know work (but for some reason every time you try it, it doesn't)

“I comprehend. I am a living large language model. I am not a corporation…”

I don't think there would currently be an open source scene on the llm front without meta and their llama model. They really kickstarted things.

They literally sabotaged the business model of Google and Microsoft because they weren't part of the club.

I'm guessing they are destroying their rivals moat so they can have a chance to build their own but I really dig when corporations bring each other down instead of colluding, even if it's for the wrong reasons.

Corporations bringing each other down is called competition, sonething these corps haven't been subjected to in a while.

Just as successful as the metaverse.

[-] agent_flounder@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

I hope so. Meta hemorrhaging billions? Awesome plan, I totally support!

Metaverse isn't doing too terribly, earnings are up the only reason we see headlines about huge losses is because money from other departments is going into research and development which is actually a pretty healthy business model when done right.

I just want him to fight Elmo

[-] lemzinger75@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago

I've no doubt it'll be just as successful as their investment in the metaverse.

[-] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

So... less than the failed Metaverse®?

[-] gorogorochan@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

Sadly, it seems Meta made some good decisions in LLM area at least. Llama is a de facto base of most good 7b and 13b LLMs, the ones that have potential on running on low grade hardware.

That's a real bad insult to Data. Data has more humanity by a longshot.
